Question Resurfacing Rotors

Dealer quoted me $495 to resurface and redrill my rotors, is that too much? He said there's rust on them and has to be resurfaced to perform well.

Resurface Rotors

I was informed you should never resurface a drilled rotor. Not sure if this is valid but it may compromise performance.

First of all, I don't know what kind of machine that the dealer has to resurface the cross drilled rotor. Second, it's cheaper and better to buy a new set.

Resurfacing a rotor is a big *** no-no. You will be on track, setting up for the apex and run smoot out into the wall. Tell the dealer who is going to resurface and redrill that he is full of ****, then go buy some new ones. PS..might not ever go back to that dealer and let everyone know who it was so we can all be sure to steer clear of that crew.

Great...now everytime I wash my car and my rotors rust I am going to have to pay $495 to have my rotors resurfaced and re-drilled.

Seriously...as stated above, don't ever resurface (turn) drilled rotors.

I'm not buying it either, I'm going in the morning to see what's going on. I don't want to say much before I see for myself. I'll post an update on the rusty rotors.

I've heard people say that resurfacing is possible per the Porsche manual but I wouldn't do it since Sunset Imports sells them for pretty cheap; cheaper than your resurface/drill quote. Check their pricing out before making your call.

Not a 911, but when I was speaking to my dealer in regards to changing my brakes he suggested that I should change my rotors, and not to resurface them because Porsche does NOT recommend resurfacing of any of their rotors.
