Replace Water Pump?

Hi,
I was wondering what the symptoms of a bad water pump would be? I have a MY 2000 C2 Cab.

Also, how difficult is it to change it myself?

Thanks!

Symtoms can be either leaking or if its making noise. Changing it is fairly easy.

Yup - sound of it will give it away. Kind of a whine. What happens is the plastic impeller starts to break, creating an imbalance on the shaft, which only makes it worse. You'll see a plume (I did anyway) as the coolant spurts from the shaft onto the exhaust.

Install was pretty straight forward - although alittle more complicated with a Tip.

Thanks for the feedback! Well, it sounds like my water pump os just fine. No noises and no leaks to speak of. The reason that i brought this topic up was that my car has been running unusually hot lately and I was trying to rule things out. I'll do a radiator cleaning and maybe the fan mod see if those help.

Does the noise change as the car warms up? I have this metallic "whine" that I hear when starting cold and it goes away after driving a couple hundred yards or so... I have no idea what it is - water pump, oil separator?

Thanks!

Is it just upon first inital start up? The whine could just be your fuel pump.

Check your front radiator fans. You have one on each side and each has two different run speeds - high and low. If you turn on the A/C they should both turn on at the high speed. To check low speed let the engine idle with the A/C off and when the coolant reaches a certain temperature the fans will kick on the low speed. If one isn't working at any speed, check the fuses and relays. If one isn't working on the low speed you've got a burnt out fan resistor.
