Exclamation why hasn't my car sold

Why will my car not sell? Its in exceptional condition, esp given its miles.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p3907.m32&_trkparms =tab%3DSelling&item=200295781711&viewitem=

(Auction gives all the options and some decent pics)

My friends and I guess that its the mileage that is scaring people away. But I would have thought that the price is a decent account of that.

Also my location in Wilmington NC (far south east corner of NC) may deter some buyers from coming to look at it. Cause I know that a lot people claim great condition and when you see it you find out that its not really that is. I have been trying to sell this for a few months now and have not had an actual prospective buyer come see that car.

One guy from wintson-salem sent his brother in law, who was a fellow wilmington porsche enthusiast, to give the car a look over. He was crazy about the car and its condition and how the few mods really brought the car up a level. But alas, the winston-salem guy found a car that was a little closer to his locale.

Hell, when I bought this car I researched 100's finding the right one with the right options in a nice and not everyday color. And also had a decent price. I had to go down to south florida to get it.

I'm not sure what else to do besides just keeping holding out.

Any helpful comments would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
AJ

quite easy...

the car is NOT in exceptional condition

in the car description you write "well maintained,no issues what so ever"

this

and that

is the thing I`m talking about.

don`t try to fool anyone

Middle of a recession? The large amount of 2002 996's on ebay with half the mileage in the same price range?

Most people want boring black and silver or grey cars, especially Porsches it seems. It took me months to sell my mint RUF Rturbo 550 because it was Guards red. Your color, I believe Orient Red, is even more difficult. I am a color guy, especially non-traditional colors so I know where you are coming from. You will have to drop the price and clean up the scuffs and paint chips and maybe get an upto date service if you have not already. I didn't read your ad so I don't know if you did this. It is a horrible time to sell anything so you have to really go low it make someone interested. Good luck!

Obviously the issues statement relates to mechanical issues. (youngbimmer) those pictures of the scuffs are deliberate (where did they come from? oh, my ad. and am not trying to 'fool' anyone...but thanks for the time it took for that very non helpful post.

I do agree that there are some cars of the same year with a lot less miles close to my price, but not under. These same cars are also stripped down with little to no options.

I've heard that rarer colors are hard to sell. Sucks that people are so boring.

It's just a crappy market. The really unfortunate part is when the market turns around, the floor will have been set. The prices will never go up, but in the future they may go down more slowly. I looked at Manheim recently and it was either depressing or exciting depending on your perspective.

If you gotta sell, put your tail between your legs and take what the market will give you. You have very little control.

Options are meaningless in terms of resale. If you have more miles then your price needs to be lower

as a perspective buyer (youre too far from me but to give you an idea) I think the miles are too high for the asking price. 2002's with 40k miles can be had for your price point. I personally dont like the color but Im sure there are other who do like it. Now if it was white... with aero... man!

If you can find a good 40k 2002 for $28k I suggest you scoop it up.

Biggest problem: economy
other problems: mileage and unpopular color

Unless you really need to get rid of the car now, I suggest waiting to sell.

if you car was black you wouldn't need to post this thread. Drop the price to $24,999 and offer free transportation and delivery and you will see. I don't think the miles are an issue to somebody that really want a car. I bough mine with 82K miles a year ago. Now I have 102K. Happy as possibly can be.

Joel you stole my idea

I agree, you can probably ship a car cross country on open transport for $1,000 +/- if it's on the same coast then even less. OR if you have someone serious about the car and they want to fly out to take a serious look, you can agree to reimburse them for their flight if they end up buying the car (less than the cost of paying for shipping).

Otherwise I think everyone's pretty much hit the nail on the head. Bad time to sell, tough color to sell, 80,000 miles.

I like that idea and will probably end up doing something like that.

The color is what most attracted me to the car in the first place, and is complimented almost every time I take it out. (the color)

Thanks for the feedback!
