Water in my Cab - What to do?!?
Water in my Cab - What to do?!?
F***! So I picked up my car yesterday from a trim shop (the 2nd time) that replaced my OEM top and rear plastic window. When I picked it up the first time, the rear window leaked water through the seams, so I took it back to them to resolve the issue. They ended up putting a second stitch around the perimeter of the window and stated that they tested the window to make sure it was not leaking. Fine. Got it home and then today I decided to clean it out. I noticed the carpet was damp when I started vacuuming the interior. Damn. When I lifted the rear carpet down to the floor board, there was a puddle of water. About an inch deep. The front driver side is soaked too, not as much but there is water down there.
Any suggestions on what I should do? I am concerned about any electrical issues and if the water might have gotten other places where it could cause problems.
I am thinking about taking the car to the dealer tomorrow to witness the problem and ask for an estimate to clean it out. Legal action against the trim shop too to cover the expense in case they give me a hassle?

i would take it to the dealer first....get some printed reports and estimates...take that to the trim shop try to work it out before any legal action, that could take months to see anthing ....goodluck and sorry about the hassle
OK i had a similar problem....
1st you MUST remove the seat it uses 4 bolts you need an t-12 female torx socket to do so...the alarm and seat control box is directly inder the seat if that gets wet ur out $$1400
2nd you need to lift up the carpeting that requires the front fuse/kick pannel removed the trim with the seat memory/trunk release and the rear trim where the speaker is to be removed....Not that hard...few simple tools...
3rd lift up the carpeting and put some fans in there it will take at LEAST a week to completely dry!!!!!!!!
YOU MUST LIFT UP THE CARPETING!!!!!!!! THE WATER WILL NEVER GET OUT OTHERWISE!!!
PM me if you have any questions or if you need the service manual to remove the pieces i mentioned.
As far as the rear window i reccomend some clear sillicone

Thanks guys. Omar, I plan on seeing the dealer tomorrow and I'll go from there. The problem is that the jack *** who installed the top scratched my paint and stitched the window like a 10 year old did it. Stitching is all over the place. I hate to take legal action but being an attorney, sometimes that is the easiest way for me to go when dealing with people such as this guy. It's funny how the biggest bully comes around as soon as he has to appear in court.
Asailors, I got your message, and I'll call if I need some guidance. A friend and I are going to take the carpet out tomorrow so cross your fingers.

Hearing stories like this really pisses me off.............you pay someone to do their job they screw it up causing more damage and then have to deal with results. How could they have not noticed that much water??? I hope you get this resolved.

In my experience, carpet that wet really needs to be replaced. It always smells musty otherwise. When it comes to embarassing situations, I'd always rather have a car that looks bad than one that smells bad.
It may not be the carpet as much as that funny padding they put underneath it, but I have just replaced both in the past. So you might be able to get some new underpadding as a cheap fix.

Replacing the carpet and pad sounds like a good idea - I don't want to have to disassemble this thing all over again. I'll let it sit out of the car and decide how its going. Thanks all for your insight and support.
