I wrecked my car!

Hey guys--

I fell asleep at the wheel and ran down a few guard fence/posts on the highway.

My bumper disappeared and my headlights are destroyed. I'll also have to replace my hood and fenders.

Chad's story made me wonder if I could turn this tragedy into a little bonus.

I had the regular halogen lights. Since they're going to have to replace both headlight assemblies, would it be an easy matter to put in real xenons?

Is everything for the xenon lights contained within the assembly? Can anyone tell me the price difference between the standard assembly and the xenon assembly?

First,
Thank God you're OK. Second, you can convert to litronics but the self leveling feature is only available factory installed as far as I know.

Thanks Dr. T!

At 70 mph, the fence did amazing damage to my car, but thankfully I walked away without even a bruise.

So assuming you go without the self-leveling feature, everything else required for xenons would be contained within the xenon headlight assembly?

Anyone have any idea on the price difference between regular and xenon assemblies?

I think there are a few sets of lights for sale on ebay. Just make sure you don't buy some stolen ones, they probably have some bad karma attached. :-)

I should also mention that I'm happy that you are ok. A friend fell asleep on his ride home and hit a parked Truck. Totaled his car, put him in the hospital for awhile.

Thanks guys! Yeah, a hospital trip would've been bad.....considering I don't have medical insurance, lol.

Turns out that upgrading to xenon involves more than just changing out the headlight assembly. My dealership tells me that there's some other wiring that needs to be done, and involves 3-4 hrs of labor.

I've heard the litronics are worth it, so I'm going for it....

Do you think Medical might be a good idea?

I hate to go from car talk to serious issues, but don't you think it's a bit silly to be talking about litronics when you don't have medical coverage. There are tons of places to get coverage for the self emplyed.

https://www.ehealthinsurance.com/ehi...ontent%7cBestR

Get coverage with a high deductable and at least you'll have coverage for major injuries/illnesses. Without it you could lose everything or worse die. I bet you have insuracne on your 911. I'm not trying to be a smart-***, it just makes good sense. Hope you'll take some time to ponder......

Merry Christmas!

PS - there is an awsome RGT RS body kit out now - CCheck out RUF's new car in Dec. Excellence.

Makes heaps of sense to be farting around spending $$s on your car when you don't have medical coverage. Way to go. Almost as smart as falling asleep at the wheel!

Falling asleep at the wheel

will increasingly be viewed as a crime very similar to DWI. There are some people who use legal or illegal drugs that make them sleepy - there are some people that are not getting enough sleep - and then there are some people who have sleep disorders such as sleep apnea.

If you are overweight, (or have a particularly thick neck), feel tired all the time including waking up from sleep feeling tired, get evaluated for sleep apnea - it may save your life as well as that of others in your car or on the road. And, it is far more prevalent and dangerous than once thought.

Don't be so quick to give Steve a hard time about his lack of medical insurance. Over the last decade, my employers spent over $50k on my medical insurance to cover bills that amounted to a few hundred $'s. I'm currently not working and am now self insured. If something major happens, I can afford it. I can't speak for Steve, but I've run the numbers and it makes sense for me and my situation.

Yes, I do have other insurance such as auto.

Holger... look at the math again... in the event you have a major medical trip or lets say some illness which requires extensive treatment there is no way self insuring makes sense...

Now if you are a multi-millionare then why risk it and just pay the $600 a month so you dont have any chance of losing everything you worked so hard for???

If you cover your auto why would you not cover your body... doesnt make sense.. but at the least he did not get hurt...

Not flaming you.. just friendly advice...
