For those that installed the 997 air assembly... I just bought one and noticed mine does not have a secondary metal screen near the sensor like my 996 box does- did anyone notice this difference or am I missing a part? Also, the 996 box has a foam pad insert that is attached with a plastic frame and screws where the snorkel attaches at the bottom, this too is not present in the 997 box! Please help!

Well worth the effort!

It is straight bolt on?
I put the 997 airbox in after removing the resonator box and actuator/valve. I blanked off the holes with carbon discs backed with rivnuted aluminum plates inside. I had to re-locate the air pump to allow the bigger 997 snorkel in (2nd photo) to take advantage of the bigger volume. Sounds brilliant- even with the sports exhaust noise. Best mod I have done by far.

With 996 snorkel.

997 snorkel fitted. Air pump turned clockwise to locate 2nd bolt hole after swapping the rubber bush on the mounting bracket to the other now unused hole.

That looks great, Steve! And the carbon disc is a nice touch. Tell us more about how you made that part. Thanks.

I must admit the 997 is a better looking air box! Great mod. Please report back if you experience any performance issues.

Rock on!

Cheers! I measured the holes with a vernier caliper and drew the discs up using cad. I drew the image with the edges of the bolt holes touching the opening so it would locate accurately. The inside has the same dimensioned discs but made with aluminium and with rivnuts fixed. A little silicone sealer seats them snug and airtight. I printed the drawings off and used them as templates. I can retrieve the drawings and post them if you like. Be careful cutting the carbon: its nasty stuff and it makes you itch like hell!

Hi. definitely no performance loss! If anything the engine seems a little easier to rev and pick up. I can notice a slight increase in induction noise; not much as I have a sports exhaust fitted. I'm sure you would notice more with a OE muffler. The inside of the air filter on the 997 airbox where the resonator sits was clean; an indication that the whole area of the filter was not being drawn from. The rest of the filter was dirty. I will report on this when I come to replace this new filter; hopefully discolored right across the panel.

Hi. I had the foam pad you speak of in my 996 airbox. It had almost completely disintegrated into dust on inspection. I ran the car with new foam fitted and without- absolutely no difference! So no worries there. If you are talking about the circular, plastic screen before the MAF sensor it is an 'air-straightener' that smooths the airflow so the sensor can get an uninterrupted reading. I think the 996 should have this too but I have heard this has little or no effect on performance. Personally I would leave the circular screen in; you will get a much bigger and smoother air delivery with the 997 box and resonator delete. Go for it! You will not be disappointed. Best mod I have done by far.
