There are some nice options on this car (all part of the special 'anniversary treatment' ;-) )
The car seems to have *extremely* low mileage (2,694?). If that's correct, then this car has been a garage queen for the last 6 years (less than 500 miles per year) - which seems to indicate the previous owner acquired it more as a collector car. The m96 engine has an issue with respect to the IMS bearing (you've probably read about it online - if you haven't, do so). There is a general theory (by more knowledgeable people than I) that under driven cars have a higher likelihood of being affected.
The other notable is that it is the 40th anniversary edition. I guess the value of this will be determined by your intentions. If you are looking for a collectable car that you intend to garage (to keep up it's collectable value) then this is probably worth quite a bit. If you actually intend to drive your car, the collectable value will diminish with the added miles and the anniversary edition then has a value more inline with the options packages it represents.
Disregarding the mileage and the anniversary edition, which I see as the truly notable aspects of this car, I think this car is on the expensive side . I would expect to pay low 30's. I'll leave it to further discussion as to whether the mileage and anniversary edition status justify the additional 10K.
FYI I recently bought a 03 cab with moderate miles (53K) and a similar option set in the mid 20's - but again, not an anniversary car.
Regardless you should insist on a thorough PPI by a different mechanic. Yes, I know it's P-certified, but they want to sell you a car whereas a 3rd party could care less if you buy that car or not.

Low 30's will not get this car. i would think 40-42K would do it.
It looks in great shape. Get the PPI and go for it if it comes back clean.
As I say, I exclude myself from discussions on the value the anniversary tag adds - I leave that to the collectors.
Is this a CPO? Coming from a dealer, that may be part of the sale, or possibly can be worked into it.
I agree that the price is high if its gonna be a daily driver since the crazy low milage is a plus for a collector. I actually would prefer the car to have 15,000-20000 miles on it to at least know the gremlins were worked out.

Just out of curiosity - what's makes the 40th anniversary version special besides the obvious exclusivity? Were there special options/features installed on the car? In the pics, the only thing I can make out would be the '911' badge instead of your standard Carrera and possibly an aero package? (not sure what came standard w/ the 2004's, but my '03 doesn't have the aggressive front and side skirts shown in the pic)...
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Looks nice but price seems a little high. I have a very good friend who sold his 05 M3 and bought a 2003 911 Carrera Turbo, 22k miles, all records, squeaky clean PPI for that same $49K being asked for this n/a 911. It all boils down to what you are truly looking for. Me personally, for that money, I'd go Turbo or go home. +1 on having some mileage to get the gremlins worked out as well.
Thanks everyone for the info, I would like to drive the car not just collect it.
Will not be a daily but a spring summer car, the M has 23k in 5 years
Also I want a turbo car, while i do like the car in question the price is too high for a non turbo.
Any NY/NJ/CT/PA fanatics know where i can look for a 996 turbo 40-50k range

Other than cosmetic differences the biggest difference for a 40th car is the X51 engine, which gives more power. The car is way overpriced, even given the low mileage. For that sort of money you can be in a 05, 06 or possibly an 07 997S. Or a 996 Turbo with low mileage. 996's will never really be collector cars, too many produced. Even a 40th will not truly be a collector car. If you kept the mileage low the car will still continue to lose value. Collector cars tend to maintain or increase in value. Buying at a premium like the price of this car will never allow for that.
To find a Turbo just keep an eye on the usual sources, Renntech, Rennlist, 6Speedonline, dealers, papers, autotrader, eBay, etc. There are lots of them out there.

I have a 40th and it looks like that car is missing matching luggage, Nav, and maybe PSE. Both were options. That is very low miles car though. I love mine and the 345HP X51 is an AWESOME upgrade. You have to understand in 2004 (really 03) the only thing that had more HP was the GT3 and the Turbo. The new P cars are just now going past this mark.
As far as the price. I think it is high by 7k-8K. You do have to add in the Porsche CPO which I think would bring this car to the low 40's. If it had all the options and lugguage it still would be a 49k car.

40th has full leather-painted seat backs, painted center tunnel, LSD-which is awesome option, turbo front end, side skirts, gt silver color (now an option for all cars), polished wheels, 2 piece luggage, wallet key chain, oh yeah 13k x51 package for 20hp -which in reality its a little more but not 100hp
-Ive added short shift and PSE which make it right--
ROW had a lower suspension and i think 3rd radiator(i think-its been a while)
its a great little car -and gives u the 911 purist feel with a lil more oomph
I have a 500hp m5 (previously m3) so I know what FAST is
numerous threads on this-its a different feel from m3 -u will get more looks in 911 though
both are great cars-like a blond or brunette girlfriend
