What type of coolant to get and where?

Red light comes on for the first 5-10 minutes and 'check coolant' message. I checked the coolant tank, it's about an inch below level. It doesn't seem to be leaking more. After running engine the light goes away.

Where can I order coolant and what type of coolant to buy?

Is it ok to drive for a few days before I put in coolant?

Thanks in advance.

if the car is never going to be exposed to tempatures below 0c, why not just top up with distilled water?

It might get below 0/32F in New York in a month or so. But even then, probably small amount of water won't cause it to freeze. You have a good point.

kinda. distilled water is the condensation formed by the steam coming off the distilled water. leaving behind any ions that you wouldn't want in your coolant lines. i'm not really sure where you buy it to be honest. my friend has a reverse osmosis tap in his house for drinking water and i've just always used that. maybe your car would prefer pellegrino

You can buy distilled water at most grocery stores. It's very pure and different than reverse osmosis etc. One thing you need to know is if anyone else has added coolant apparently if you mix the two it can create a sludge. My car just had the cooling system flushed and refilled which ran almost 500.00 because someone used teh wrong stuf and mixed it. Actually you can really flush our cars due to the length of the houses etc. they essentially vacumm fill them. Run distilled water through repeatly until clear and then refill with coolant.

You can buy distilled water in Walmart and it is cheap. I use a 50/50 mix as well but I live a bit further south.
