This sounds like normal oil pressure to me.

Also, if you pulling 5,000 rpm @ 3.5 bar, your oil pressure should be normal.

Went on a hard drive up a long canyon yesterday and my pressure went down by .5 to 1 when engine was super hot from the pull. Is this normal when the oil gets toasty? The clutch was noticeably softer to push in also. After coming down and cooling the engine all went back to normal. Thoughts?

.5 bar is probably low. What brand/viscosity of oil were you running? What was the temp gauge on the cluster at? What was the outside temp? How many miles on the car/engine?

It was more around 1 bar most the time. It was a 20 mile climb from 4500 to 7500 feet at speeds from 80 to 100 mph. The car stayed reasonably cool until we our group stopped at the top to chat and turn around. Mostly the gauge stays on the zero of the 180 temp mark. This time the fans were working while we chatted/ I opened the engine hood. I don't know exactly what the water temp was, but it was at the 2/3 mark...I'm figuring 210+. I know the oil is quite a bit warmer than the water temp too. So, at those speeds and rpms of anywhere from 4000 to 6000 the oil got a good work out. The pressure read 3.5 bars instead of the normal 4 bars while hot.

I'm running Amsoil 5W-40 which is supposed to be one of the best/great under heat. When we started down and were not pushing the engines the car cooled to the gauge on the 8 and even lower....to the 1/3 bar. The pressure actually went back up to 4 bars at 4,000 plus rpms from then on. The clutch actually stiffened back up too. Anyway, my first time with that type of experience. I'm thinking that is why track guys pushing their cars run with a top end of 50 or 60W.

What I'm thinking is that we just really pushed our engines. Good thing the outside temp was 40 deg. My car is an 01 with 73,000. Still pretty tight with no leaks and outstanding maintenance.

Anyway, have you experienced this while pushing your cars? Perhaps I'm a good candidate for the LN engineering 165 deg thermostat. I guess at full open it would not help in this instance? Anyway, let me know your thoughts.

I had the same chance. For me, unfortunately it ended up replacing the engine because the pressure jumps up, I went downhill from then to measure the pressure in the engine. came out that is more different. We opened an oil bowl and it was a lot of metal shavings.
we opened the engine and acetabulum was damaged.

I apologize for my English (google translator)

My car seems to be running just fine and I took it for a spin yesterday. So, I know it is not damaged. I just thought it was odd. I've never had it that hot or pushed it that hard before.

It does make sense as when I first start it with the thick, cold oil...at idle the pressure is at 4.5 bars. It is only after reaching temps above 180 degrees that it comes down to the normal range. So, the thinner and hotter the oil, the less pressure it shows / so at least it seems that way. I'm just thinking that on my hard drive the oil got VERY hot and was the pressure was slightly lower due to that. I'm sure that is why racing oil is heavier on the hot range.
