Screw BFG!!!!

My car has been handling like utter crap lately. I had it corner balanced, checked the aligment like 3 times, and it still handles like crap. There was a whine that was so bad the dealer told me it was the wheel bearings @ a cost of 900 bucks. I did them myself and still the noise persisted. It turns out the front tires are cupped. The car handles like utter crap and is a pain to drive in a straight line and doesn't like to return or take a set into or out of a corner.

F*ck these tires. I contact tire rack and get insulted. I contact BFG directly and they were nice enough saying I needed to take the car to a reseller to have them checked. I went to discount tire and they showed me how cupped the tires were on the inner tread blocks. I couldn't believe it. I got to speak to a BFG rep. which told me to pound sand. I later called the manager and he gave me the same BS. He actually had the audacity to tell me not to drive the car if I had a problem. I replied, so I am not supposed to drive a performance car in a performance manner with performance tires when the tires are F*CKED? He said flat out yes and denied that the tires were defective, even though I know other people with my same setup which have never had this problem WTF!!!

STAY away from BFG I have had not one but 3 defective rears from slipped belts, and I actually had to pay for the first one! I cannot believe how poor their QC is and their failure rate on the BFG comp TA KD. I will never ever buy from this company and I hope no one else does. I guess I am going to buy a set of ps2's now, which is great as I am a law student on loans and just bought two new rears a few months ago!

Are you having the alignment and all this other "checking" done by the same shop?

If so, maybe you need to try a different shop...

Cupping tires is definitely a sign that something is not alighned correctly or you have some bad suspension components (like shocks).

But if you buy new tires, you will find out if it was the BFGs, if the new tires have the same problems or not.

sorry to hear about your issues. but as the others have said I wouldnt be too quick to place blame on BFG. balancing tires that are real wide can not be done correctly at shops that dont fully understand how to balance a wheel with weights that go on the inside barrel instead of outer lip and then align your car properly. You state you want to swap tires to a different brand, but you might want to know BFG owns Michelin and the PS2's are produced in the same factory as your BFR Comps.

If the tires are truly defective, it's the responsibility of the BFG reseller to ensure you are provided a replacement or refund, this of course would need to be indentified shortly after you mounted them. BFG can only approve the warranty if their liscensed reseller puts in the claim. Good luck in rectifying the situation.

If your alignment was out initially, causing the tires to cup, then it doesn't matter how many times you get it aligned, the cupped tires will pull the alignment back out. I had that problem on one of my trucks until I got new tires. Except it was my fault because I didn't rotate them like I should have and I didn't have the alignment checked enough.

Doh, that is not good news then as I was hoping that it was maybe just the alignment and that I could drive them hard and even them out enough to make them not so obnoxious as they are now. I have basically done everything possible to have the tires swapped out to no avail, unfortunately, after having discount tire note the cupping or feathering as they called it back and forth. The tires were balanced fine before. They actually rebalanced them with a road force machine. I took it into the canyons that day and now they're terribly out of balance I can't win!

What about shaving 'em?

I have friends who run KD's very hard and no complaints, but not saying you might not have a bad set or maybe a contributing alignment at the beginning as prev mentioned.

Who did the orig alignment?

I was thinking actually about the shaving them. I tried in the canyons that same day and it actually made them worse and unbalanced as a result! Originally with my pss9's I had lucent do the alignment - perfect as usual. However I got overzelous with the rear camber at -2 and needed to dial it back, plus I wanted to corner balance the car. As they didn't have the scales I had it done at hergisheimers with the CB and the alignment same in the front I was told and -1.5r. It was fine for a while then about 1 week or so later started feeling like utter crap. I took it back and they checked the alignment that was "dead on". The strange thing was that they commented that some of the alignment settings beforehand were off, but the car handled great. Afterwards not so much probably from the cupping. I am going to have it checked at Lucent again hopefully to see what it was set at. Hergesheimer uses different laser alignment stuff, so we'll see
