How to make the car have the "cracking, popping" sounds as I let off the gas pedal?

How to make the car have the "cracking, popping" sounds as I let off the gas pedal?

Hi fellow 6speeders,

I've recently been looking at exhaust systems for my 996 c2, but I haven't come across any exhaust system that sounds anything like the new 991 or the 997 gt3s where the exhausts have a "spitting" sound effect the as gas pedal lifts off. Does anyone have any experience or advice?

E

My Fabspeed muffler bypass does it. More so when the motor is cold, but i'm pretty good at working it with my foot.

Do you know if the Cat by pass would interfere with california emissions though?

You can run cats, just do the muffler bypass - you still have a good aggressive sound. I passed Illinois emissions with the muffler bypass.

You can always change back to stock cans in very little time if it will cause issues.

thanks a lot for the tip sk, just looked up a couple videos on the fabspeed muffler bypass and it sounds exactly how I want it, aggressive!

For a 2001 3.4L I think my "gundo hack" sounds pretty damn good at high speeds. You can hear the popping as I come off the gas pedal.

Your car sounds great! What are you running? I was researching through California Smog regulations and I "think" muffler bypasses are illegal. No idea what to do anymore.

It is the Gundo Hack (partial muffler bypass / similar to PSE). I don't know about the legality in Cal. In Park City, Utah I don't even have emissions, only safety. So, I could go with no cats....and just may>>>HA! My neighbors would love that.

Below 2500 rpms it is really pretty tame, especially when warm. Cold starts are noisy for a bit, but not too bad. Here is another clip of hard acceleration. By far the most cost effective if you're just looking for a throaty sound:

Clarification on the gundo . This is NOT the same as a muffler bypass. The Gundo is a partial bypass similar to the PSE when open. a portion of the exhaust still flows through the muffler. The muffler bypass pipes exclude the muffler entirely. I had them on for an hour and immediately threw them in the trash. Too loud and vibrated a drone between any cruising rpm.

From my understanding in this thread, it is the muffler bypass or partial by pass that causes the exhaust to make the cracking sound when the rpm drops? Or is it the cats? or headers?
