Open or Closed Transport is the Question...
Open or Closed Transport is the Question...
So the carrier has put the notion in my mind that open transport is VERY safe... Even though enclosed will cost me an additional $550 the sales person at the transport company I am working with suggested I save my money and go with Open... "We transport cars every day that are twice as much as the value of your vehicle on an open carrier" that is the line that gets me... Do you think there comp plan is higher on open or what? She seems real honest and said if I have any doubt go with the enclosed for piece of mind sake...

For my cars, enclosed is the only way to go. It's safe and sound inside the trailer, out of the elements (and out of view when the trailer is parked at night), and will arive nice and clean, just like when it was picked up. I've had several transported in enclosed trailers and had great results.
Always request a top load, so you don't risk anything leaking on it.

enclosed! also, insist on a carrier who picks the car up on one truck - LEAVES it on that truck - and delivers it in that truck. cars often end up at sub-leased depots and sub-leased trucks when this isn't the case.

Okay this is what I thought... I was just feeling as if I might be a bit **** or overprotective... I can just see the car getting rock chips, going through a hail storm bumped into at a truck stop...you get the picture... Enclosed it is thanks for the quick tips.
How far?? If I'm shipping across town, I use an open flatbed truck. The company I use ships Porsche/Ferrari/Lambos all the time for service calls etc. They are very good.
For any state to state or long hauls, I will only used closed...
Good luck.

Sandoval,
I bought my car in Texas, had it shipped to NY, ENCLOSED all the way...the extra $$$ is worth the peice of mind. Its not like your car is gonna have the protective white plastic on it. The dealer may have some kick back from the shipping co, so don't buy that:
"we ship cars more expensive than yours" crap.
