PPI Review - Stuttgart Southwest - Tempe Arizona

Hello all,

I wanted to provide a review to help out other members when looking for a PPI.

The experience with the shop was great up front and they were able to get the car in a moment's notice.

I paid $300 for a PPI with a leak down test.

The good:

- The turnaround was fast

- Good communication

- Noticed that a suspension piece was replaced, but no other damage was
seen. Turns out the previous owner lifted the car improperly and needed
a component replaced.

- Price was good given the amount of work performed.

That is where the satisfactory experience ended. The following items were missed:

- Small spider crack on bumper paint

- Slight oil leak. About a drop to two drops a week.

- Two of the 4 tires were shot. One front and one in the rear. I was told
they were relatively good, and no mention is in the report.

- The car did not get examined with a paint gauge

- Slight curb rash on 2 wheels was not mentioned

- The report was a 1-page handwritten check list that was *mostly*
legible.

I have no question in my mind that this shop is a quality place to get your car fixed. They were knowledgeable and gave great information when I asked for it.

For a PPI, I would suggest another location that might take the task a bit more seriously. Getting that first tire bill during the first week of ownership is a nice "how do you do?!".

I love the car, but these items were pretty important in my opinion. Ones that could have been used to properly understand the condition of the car and what the fair market value is.

You may want to try Beck's European in Scottsdale. They are awesome.

How did they miss the 2 bad tires and curb rash? That's just unacceptable. Did they put the car up on a lift? Hand written PPI? There's all kinds of "wrong" going on here. Not so sure I'd trust them doing any work on my car based on that either. Sorry that was your experience.

Its ok. You live and you learn!

I just know if somone would have put up a review like this, I would have been saved the hassle. Pay it forward if you can. Maybe we could get a PPI review thread going.

Stuttgart Southwest is an outdated shop, hence the handwritten estimates and repair orders. The work will be done at reasonable cost, but reasonable cost comes with reasonable workmanship, experience and attention to detail. As you encountered.

Becks Europen. Formally Becks independent Porsche... Are you friggin' kidding me? By far the worst place you could take your Porsche or any car in the Valley! Unless you're a big fan of overpaying for EVERYTHING and being treated horribly.... Hey, some people are into that, but I prefer to be wined and dined before I get eff'd! And it's not just the customers that get spit on. Ever wonder why you never see the same employee more than twice??? Something's rotten in Denmark...

Don't be afraid to try new places folks. There are plenty of independents out there who would love your business and do what it takes to keep you coming back!

My favorite shop in AZ? German Auto on 7th St. And Camelback in Phoenix. Great service. Great staff. Reasonable prices and a long standing reputation!

I have been taking my car to Beck's for nearly 3 years. I have found their prices to be extremely fair and the service has been outstanding. When I first got my car I took it to the local dealer for a punchlist of repairs/maintenance. Their quote, almost $5k. Beck's did the same work for just under $1300.

Also, Frank Beck personally made a house call when I experienced a "tin can" rattling sound at start up. It turned out to be nothing...but I found out quickly and without a tow charge thanks to Frank. Also, on several occasions I have asked them to check things like the water pump, motor mounts, etc, only to be told all looked good rather than being sold on a repair/replacement.

Sorry you had a bad experience, but I found Beck's through recommendations here and on Rennlist. Yours was the first negative comment I have heard online or in person, especially on a users first post.

What experience have you had at Becks? I scheduled a PPI there for a car, heard they specialize in older Porsches. So worried that a newer one may not have the detailed output I want.
