2000 carrera c2 downshift grinding on 2nd gear?

hello all, i got my 2000 c2 6 speed about 2 years ago with 30k miles now it has 45k miles and i cant even downshift to 2nd gear from 3rd at all! It upshifts from 1st to 2nd with no problems except sometimes at high rpm. So i was wondering if anyone else experienced this?

This sounds like a syncro issue. When did it start? Did it get progressively worse, or just immediately happen? Have you done any work on the car recently before this started?

Cheers,

DS

Syncro issues are pretty common for the 996, especially going down into 2nd gear.

I have not done any upgrades to the engine/performance and it seems like it might have started grinding a little and then it got worse and worse over couple months. Is there a easy way in fixing this or will the tranny have to be removed?

Detent issue. either do the detent upgrade for $160 or a tranny overhaul $6k. My C4S is in the shop right now as we speak for the same issue.

I thought the detent upgrade is for poping out gears? mine doesn't pop out, it just grinds a little when downshifting? or will it solve the grinding aswell?

Contact GBox. They did great for me. Detent fix did not work on mine so ended up getting a rebuild. Would not hurt to give them a call though and talk to them. First mine started grinding, then popping out. Worse when it was cold.
