Any good 996's out there?
2002 C4S with 42k miles. Purchased 2 yrs ago with extended warranty. Drove a 03 C2 Cab for 5 yrs before. Love both of them. Me too is worried about the IMS issue. I'm having my transmission rebuilt due to a possible bearing issue. Will get it done under warranty and take care of the IMS issue while I'm at it.
Why of course you can. It's an adapter that goes on where the stock filter screws onto so you can use a screw on filter (NAPA) instead of the cartridge stock type. This allows full oil filtration and the filters have anti siphon built in. Make changing the oil easier uses a corvette filter.

I bought my 2002 in VERY rough condition. Part of the joy of owning it has been slowly bringing it back to life. And despite how badly the previous owner treated the poor car (loose exhaust bolts, broken studs, missing gaskets, leaking oil, low on oil, failed attempt at wrapping the console in suede, chipped paint/badly resprayed bumper, worn down clutch, tacky colored console pieces, failing AOS, beat up interior pieces, bald tires, etc) the car has run astonishingly well. Part of fun of owning it has been saving the car, bringing it back to life. Every conceivable upgrade and maintenance item has been addressed, and the car is my main source of joy. Had our paths not crossed, my poor 996 would probably be in a Porsche graveyard somewhere, and now it's showroom fresh and runs like a champ.
Hi y'all!
The snow is finally gone in the city and I hit the road today in the 996 for the first long drive since I bought her. Drives like a dream. The only problem is hubby (aka: eternal passenger). Says he needs lumbar support and his back is killing him. Having trouble getting out of the car also.
However, the icing on this cake is when he went into the supermarket to get a 1/2 gallon of milk. I cautioned that it needed to be in a plastic bag before being allowed into the car.
He emerged from said market with 1/2 gallon of milk in a plastic and a gallon of apple cider NOT in a plastic bag. I said, please go back in and get a plastic bag. He said no, it won't leak. Having done most of the grocery shopping for 18 years I know that these plastic gallons may look sealed to you but they are not totally reliable. Again he refused to get a plastic bag and huffed off. Ultimately I knew it would be a long walk with heavy jugs so I let him in with the 2 items in the one bag as he was yelling that he'll never ride with me again.
So here's the question:
1. Would any of you allow bulging plastic containers of milk and/or apple cider in your Porsche w/o them being in plastic bags?
2. Should I remind him of his declaration of never going again when I book the Sun Valley road trip with my local chapter of PCA? Woohoo!
3. Is there any way to negotiate his stupid ego problems and still save the interior of my beloved car ???

Thank you!!!!!
Thank you Fla996TT,
Tonight we read aloud.
Thank you for making my point.
I raised 2 kids and their carsick buddies in my daily driver Mercedes Benz 300 E. OK, I had to then.
My 89 y.o. mother would take laxatives and then inform me ( on many occasions) during our outings that she urgently had to crap while I was driving my BMW 528i requiring me to forcibly boot her from the passenger seat to avoid an unspeakable disaster.
Hubby actually put regular gasoline in my BMW and lie to me (but I found the receipts.)
I'll be damned if ANYONE is going to **** up my Porsche but ME!
I hide my keys and lock the car when it's in the garage.
There ought to be a law!

Nothing more beautiful than women driving Porsches.
No, no extended warranty. The car is 11 years old now (was born April 0) so it has been pretty much tested everywhere. The O2 sensor seems to be a common problem, but I just changed the plugs for the first time (yeah) last year and put a set of new michelin pilot super sports...like new. Looks new still.

I have a 2003 996 C4S with 75,000 miles. I picked her up with 38,000 miles and have had no problems. I've done all the service myself (justified buying a lift for my garage). So far this has been one of the most reliable cars I've ever had. I use it as a daily driver now bit that may change if I decide to track her.
I've driven my 02 C2 for some time now - 87K miles and has been bullet proof! I've also been with Porsche for over 12 years now and, in my experience, 02+ 996s are very good cars. Good idea to have the IMS and RMS replaced - good preventative medicine. But a pre owned Porsche is like anything else. The quality of the car depends a lot on the past pedigree. I've seen excellent cars with 100K+ miles on them and turds with 20k miles. Good maintenance is everything!
