Mine didn't, can't say it got worse, but it didn't get any better after 700 miles. Sharky and James have it in their shop right now giving it some tender loving care.
I wonder if your rattling was the same as mine. It sounds truly awful, like grinding bearings, It got worse as it got hotter. Increasing the revs made it sound like it was going away, but actually the engine noise was simply masking the rattling.
It actually sounded far worse inside the cabin than outside, but still worrying enough for me to keep pestering the guys about it.
Pulling up at the lights was an embarrassing procedure. First they'd hear the pipes, then the awful rattling.
:-)
Luckily, Sharky and James took some video of it and I think they showed it to VF who replaced the SC right away.
VF suspects either interference or faulty bearings.

Mine is quiet after warmup even after 30,000 miles. Make sure you are NOT running 0W40 oil and you clean your SC oil feed periodically. And NEVER, NEVER, go to, or close to full boost until engine is fully warmed up.
Much louder.

Yes, you were the one the convinced me to get it done !
Yours is much quieter than mine. Mine sounded awful, a horrible grinding sound.
Sharkwerks had it covered though, in fact James is working on it right now, should have it back later today, so I'll report back on the sound difference.
I loved the whistling sound on the freeway, but hated the grinding sound at the lights.
I'm also literally amazed by the fuel consumption too.
I mean, around town its awful like you'd expect, but on the freeway at 70ish it's getting into the low 30's. Amazing.
I'm #108, I guess these things are pretty reliable by now.
it's sweet isn't it. don't believe the trip computer MPG. it is way off. i think the trip computer calculates off a certain voltage range from the fuel injectors. well, the new fuel injectors have a different duty cycle than the old injectors. they are probably sending off less voltage to trip computer giving you a higher MPG reading. next time you top off, do the calculation by hand, miles/gallons.
good luck.
good luck.

I was told by Todd at evo that the gas mileage is off 15% or so when I got mine installed. It looks impressive to see 30+ mpg but I would guess it's high 20's. I have had mine as high as 36mpg on the display.
1999Porsche911 can you give us a list of things to monitor with the supercharger. I personally had no idea about the 0w40. Do you have any idea about what needs maintenance and when, specifically dealing with the supercharger components. For example, how long do the belts or air filters last? Does water ever need to be added to the system? I would imagine not, but I also have had the gurgling sound when the engine is off and the key is in the on poisiton. Anything you could offer to help my supercharge last forever would be helpful to know.

is there any daily/weekly/montly maitenance that needs to be done to avoid any type of problems with the SC? (like add distilled water to the intercooler etc) I was wondering because my dealer just told me to get oil changes. I too get a little rattle once in a while but it doesn't always happen and it goes away right away.

i wish Evo would monitor this thread from time to time. we've got well over $100K in sales in this thread alone.
it would be nice to see Todd of Mike chime in here for advice.

1. Clean the MAF with electronics spray with every oil change.
2. I run a about a 40/50 (antifreeze/water) mixture in the intercooler system.
3. At every oil change, I remove and clean the oil fitting to the SC and verify oil delivery by removing hose and briefly starting engine to see flow.
4. No problems with belt.
5. Never run water (0W40) in the engine.
6. Check pulley bolt. This can be done easily with a 14mm box wrench.
7. Every once in awhile I open coolant filler and observe coolant flow.
8. Remove and clean/oil filter 2 times a year. I do so a few days before changing oil at which time I clean the MAF.
9. Tighten boost hose clamps every few months.
I will also change the coolant this summer since it has been 3 years.
Gurgling noise when the pump is running is normal and is because the system is not a pressurized one a deepends on gravity to return colant to the underbody pump reseviour. Make sure return hose is not kinked and does not have extreme bends in it.
A quick way to destroy the blower is to take it to high rpm's before the unit is fully wamred up and componants are expanded. Always wait until the engine is warm before full boost.
I'm unit #2 which is the first unit for a 99 C2.

Thanks for bringing this one back to life I need to re-read it start to finish. I am seriously thinking about pulling the trigger soon.
For those of you that did the install: If you could do it all over again would you still do it?
