We also have a local guy who wants to put in the B&M unit that bolts to the transmission and I can do before and after measurements on that as well. Is this a side-to-side movement as if you were in neutral and wigggling the shift lever back and forth.
Jeff, What I ment is the in car SS reduces the throw only into the 1-3 and 5 gears from nutral but the throws from nutral into 2-4 and 6 gears remain the same. And vise versa for the under the car SS.

I have the undercar B&M/TechArt short shifter . The forward ( 1/3/5 th gear ) AND rearward ( 2/4/6th gear ) throws from neutral were all reduced 30-35 % from stock. The side movement across 1-2/3-4/5-6 gates remains stock , to minimize , IMO, downshifting to the wrong ( scccrunnnnch ) gear when driven in anger.

I have measured the throws on the shift lever replacement. But not yet on the unit that bolts to the transmission. I cannot measure what I cannot understand.

Jeff, I see by the picture and the measurements that the in car SS does reduce the throws into all of the gears, hope this helps.
The stock shifter moves 2 3/4 of an inch in each way to select the next gear as pictured.

But with the SS the throw reduces to 1 1/2 inch in both directions. Thus leaving 1 1/4 of an inch in each direction of travel reduced by the SS. As pictured.

So in conclusion the in car SS does reduce the shift in ever direction, not just into the upper gear, i.e. 1-3 and 5.

Yes, the throw is reduced in all gears and that is why I could not understand why some said it was for only certain gears or why some said it should be combined with the transmission mounted unit.

When you see the pictures of the lever in the middle of the 2 black lines on the tape then the lever is in neutral. I would put it in first, take a picture. Then neutral, take a picture. Then second, take a picture. Same thing for 3-4. Did this on the oem shift then again after the Porsche short shift was installed. Could not post all the pictures at the same time as there is a limit.

There is no need to install a unit on the transmission as there will already be a reduction in all gears when the lever style short shifter is in.

I will do the same before and after measurements when we put in the B&M unit that bolts to the transmission. The only issue there is that it has 3 settings. Jeff
