996 vs E46 M3? thoughts?
hey guys, i listed my 01 c2 for sale and thought about downgrading/upgrading (depnding on opinion) to an 01' or 02 e46 m3.
figure i'd consult the board before any decisions, thoughts anyone? thanks! haha

What's the point? I was debating between C2 and M3 before I bought my Porsche. But after driving them both, the choice became very clear. M3 feels nothing special and it's heavy and feels more "loose". Also, there are just way more M3 out here (San Diego) than Porsche~

All i know is, i have a pretty modded 996tt, and i still miss my M3. They are flat out amazing cars, and sorry to say IMO iw ould take an e46 M3 over any 996 carrera short of the turbo on up! M3 till this day, even bone stock gives me an amazing driver's satisfaction and feel, i cant wait to get another
Cool, i love my negative rep points because people cant keep it real and give respect where respect is due, that's that the E46 m3 is ONE HELL OF A CAR! I might be a Porsche owner, but i sure do love my M3's also, too many biased ignorant people here, damm just when i thought it was so different from the BMW boards
I'm with you Martin. A lot of brand bigots on this thread.
Now that we got that out of the way.
I think you should go for it. The M3 is a great car, albeit a different one from your current ride, but you'll be putting 10k in your pocket and you'll still be driving one of the top performance luxury cars under the 100k mark.
I would try and go for an 03.5+ (post May 2003 build) or later. Earlier models may or may not have several different rod bearing recalls/issues/etc. I won't get into it here, and for most people it isn't a big deal. But I personally wouldn't want to own a car which the dealer had taken the engine apart.

Also, I've seen some of your other threads on M3 vs 99x, I'm not trying to start a holy war here. I would take a 997, 996 GTx, 996 Turbo over the E46 M3 any day of the week, no thinking required. The NA 996 models are a different story, they have pros and cons when compared with the M3 even if you don't factor in price.

edit: Some numbers to think about... let's say Porsche Sold 8k 996 turbos in the US. I think that's a pretty good guess, certainly within 25% of actual. Now let's say that they sold 3 996s for every turbo (from 01 - 04). That's 24k more, and we havent even covered 99 and 2000 (let's figure another 12k for both years) , nor have we included GT2s(700ish) and GT3s (1000ish). That totals 46k. I'm not saying that the Porsche isn't rarer, but what I am saying is that if it is, it isn't by a huge margin.
