B&M short shifter...
Thinking about doing a self install on the short shifter but how easy is the installation? I saw the Installation manual and looked pretty clear/easy to do but worry about damaging the car.
Can I really damage the car if I install it wrong?
Or is it worth paying $300 and taking it to a professional?
Thanks for the help...

DIY it.
Only prob for me is that I am not sure if it is supposed to be as notchy as it is cuz I did a DIY, however as far as difficulty, its pretty simple & the instructions are really good. Its not worth $300 IMO, maybe $50 at most.

It took me two hours, taking my time and following the included instructions. Not terribly difficult, but take your time paying attention to where the cables are attached to the stock shifter before removing them. I took a picture and marked the position with some nail polish.
I installed the short shifter couple of days ago, and only took me about 2 hours for the job. The installation was easy and the instruction was very clear.
With the short shifter, it feels heavier but more precise, which is exactly what I'm looking for.
Overall, I would say this is the no.1 must-have DIY mod.

Peter

I just got mine installed last night. I cant drive the car right now because it's in storage, but i can already tell just playing in the garage that im going to LOVE the mod. Soooo much more precise! Feels like a race car

Easy install, mine took two hours, taking my time. The longest part of the job is breaking those silly OEM plastic tabs.
You will notice that you have lost the soft shifting style of the OEM assy. But within a few miles you will have forgotten about the old style of shifting and will welcome the B&M feel.
The stock OEM style can best be classified as "rowing a boat".
Cheers

I installed mine in about an hour and a half, and paid special attention to lining up the rods. It shifted perfectly, but was a little too much for me, and I've had a SSK in almost every manual vehicle I've ever owned. After putting some miles on it, I found it to be liveable, but not nearly as silky smooth as the stock shifter. I never thought the throw of the stocker was that long- try driving a Corvette!
But, my opinion is clearly the minority!
