Pulled over for no front plate! GRRRRR!

WTF??? I cannot believe what happened this morning...I got a ticket for no front plate from LAPD!!!!

So...any of you that live in So Cal and know of the infamous LAPD...you can literally get shot and as long as you are not dying, the LAPD is not coming. You have to murder someone for LAPD to go anywhere. But not today..it must of been my LUCKY DAY!

8:30AM on Olympic Blvd and Hill St in Downtown LA.
LAPD swoops behind me light flashing...and I KNEW IT...the second I saw it was a 2 man car. Again..I have several friends that are LEO, LA County Sherriffs and even some LAPD. Whenever you see a two man cari in LA...9 out of times they are training a newbie..and that is EXACTLYwhat happened. Why on earth would LAPD pull me over JUST FOR THE FRONT PLATE!!!???

I am soo pissed...the Training Officer comes over...typical.."So you know why I pulled you over?" "its because you dont have front plates...why dont you have front plates?"

I literally told him..."because it makes the car look ugly...look at my car...a front plate makes it look terrible."

he wasnt too happy about that answer....15 mins later the newbie comes over and gives me my fix it ticket. WHATEVER!

I am just going to pay the damn fine...I am not putting a plate on the front that serves ZERO purpose other then to generate revenue at photo radar lights. I hate being made an example of...totally not fair...but whatever.

ok RANT OFF....grrrrr!

Lucky.....I got a ticket for loud music, and get this, wrong color turn signal....he said my turn signal was white when it should be yellow....I sat there and pointed out about 8 new cars with white turn signals...all late model BMW's and Benz's....he says you are lucky, I could cite you for a moving violation with the music...my top was down, so it was louder than others but not obnoxiously loud....so he says just fix the turn signal....I looked and my yellow coating on the bulb had flaked off....but it was still there....replaced the bulb and i was all good, got it signed off on....simple fix, put the plate on, get it signed off and remove the plate.....Mine was on Sunset Blvd....friday night.....there were about 50 lapd and sherriffs cars...he said they were writing tickets so the traffic would be reduced....by the way, a meter maid can write you the same ticket even if you are LEGALLY parked somewhere....so if you park in LA you can get a front plate ticket while you are parked.....its because the red light cameras need a front plate to get you....so for the system to work, you need a front plate.

I got pulled over 2 weeks ago.
I told the officer that the I was wating for "special order clips" from Porsche to re-attach my plate. I told him I had the plate in the boot and that I could show him if he wanted. He looked at it and asked what happened? I told him that I assumed from the bend in the corner that someone's rear bumper had caught it and pulled it off and that I found it on the ground in front of my car. Told him that I was taking care of it and just waiting for the clips to arrive at the dealer.
He told me to have a good day and drive safely.

In my experience, it never pays to be rude to a cop.

Bummer AI. I haven't had plates on my car since I bought it in April 06. I left the dealer window sticker on so they think I just bought it. Hopefully it won't cost you anything.

might have worked up there, but in SoCal, they are brutal...they simply would have said, "well its a fix it ticket, get it signed off when the parts come in."....

On a fix it ticket do you have the chance to make it good with no fine?

Yes, you need to go to the police station and have an officer sign off on it, showing its been corrected....what people used to do was scribble a signature and make up a badge number and send it in, now you need a special stamp on it from the police station, so you cannot get it signed off in the field from any officer like you used to. once its signed off on, you send it in, no fine...only a fine if you dont fix it.

Ok, same as here.
I guess if LAPD are going to enforce the front plate law then it's a losing battle.
I've been running no front plate for the last 4 years and 2 weeks ago was the first time I was pulled over for it. I'm lucky TOPD have too many other problems to deal with.

I got one about a month ago. I didn't have to explain. The officer answered his own question when he asked why I didn't have it up. "It doesn't look right correct?" I just nodded and he said it wasnt a good enough excuse.

Yeah, in LA, they are installing the red light cameras all over the place...its a revenue thing...the camera snaps a pic of you driving, and the front plate...then mails you a ticket....you can only fight it if you are not the person driving, then you must notify them who was driving....the system is defeated with no front plate, so there is a HUGE push to make sure the front plate is there...The parking ticket (the ones the meter maids write when they see parked car with no front plate) is not a fix it ticket if I recall, its simply a fine of like $20 or $30 a pop.....

I just got popped for 25+ over the limit with a CHP radar in OC and he did not say anything about me not having a front plate. I guess I should feel lucky that I am only paying the $200 for the speed and not the additional $20 for the fix it? Installing a detector next month.

I live in Newport Beach, and they dont worry about the plates (yet)....Its an LA thing because of the red light cameras.....I did get a tint ticket on Costa Mesa though in my Range Rover.....
