Question My tires are "scalloped" !!!!

So... I need new wheels since my tires are "scalloped." I have an 01 C2 with the aero kit and 18" sport design wheels. I have a "hook-up" on the tires so thats not an issue. Im just confused as to what size tire I should replace the conti's with.

Im thinking about replacing the fronts with the same size: 225/40/18. But Im thinking of replacing the rears with 275s instead of 265s since the 265s look a little stretched. ALSO, Im planning on adding spacers... maybe a 15mm (or 10mm in the rear) all around so i have to take this into account also...

I dont like the tire "bulge" look thats why im skeptical to go with a 285 in the rear (plus i want to accomodate the spacer)...

any input would be great guys. thanks.

can't help with the sizes since I just got the stock sizes on my C4S, but I replaced all 4 tires today with RE050A Pole Positions. My tires were scalloped too. Man what a difference! On the freeway today on the way back to work, I could listen to all things considered on NPR on the "19" volume setting instead of the usual "23". Also on turns, its hard to explain but they seemed to get so much more grip than my old used Conti Sport Contacts. Its not that the conti's would slip, but more like you can feel the grip on these.

Anyhow, I recommend them and they were cheap kind of, only $1000 even mounted and balanced at the local tire shop

Your tires are scalloped so you need new wheels? Maybe new tires and an alignment.

My two cents worth ....I'm with you in that I do not like the tire bulge at all either. I just purchased some Toyo Proxes about 4 weeks ago and I love them! I also have the Sport Design Wheels on a 2000 Cab and did 285/30/18 rear and 225/40/18 front and they ride and fit perfect! I am very happy with them and would do it over again. I read in another post (https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=76327) that if you go with 15mm all around with that setup you will be just fine. In the post mentioned above, check out redridge's pics, the car looks beautiful with the setup you are talking about (which I have ). Hope this helps....

I had 285s also on my '01 cab and they fit fine with no bulge at all. In fact, it looked better than the lowrider look where the tire was narrower than the rim with the 265s. It's been awhile but if I recall correctly, the front rim is 1/2" wider when a 285 rear is used from the factory vs the 265 rear. That said, keep in mind that just adding a 285 rear with regular width front rim will increase understeer.

Very Good Point Robert! I forgot about that. Is understeer something that can be reduced by using different size spacers in front than in back? not sure

thanks for the input guys...

potxoli, its funny that you said that you have the RE050s because those are the tires I am getting a deal on.

anyway, I feel like getting a 285 on the rear would bulge a little. 275 seems perfect... does anyone have pics of the 285s in the rear on some 10" wheels???

eight0zero, you'll like the RE050's. for a price comparison if it helps, I got the stock 18" 225 in the front and 295 in the rear for a C4S and paid $1008 out the door from a local tire place.

my understanding is that all summer tires are dangerous if freezing. I have an SUV for when it gets really cold
