Sloppy knob...
Sloppy ****...
I've installed a SSK (one I got off eBay, which may be the problem) and although I'm happy with the throw, the shift is still sloppy - about the same as it was with the factory gearchange. I used to have a Miata, and the feel through the **** on that car was unbelievable - I swear I could feel each tooth on the gears - it was so good it was like putting your finger in the gearbox and moving the forks directly.
Is there anything I can do to tighten up my ****?
P.S. Serious question, and I did search first.

Sounds like you should talk to your family doctor instead of posting on a car forum.
Seriously,
The ebay SSK is crap, the shaft and steel bits are fine, its the crapy plastic bushing that they used between the shaft and shift link ends. They wear fast and will have lots of play because of poor tolerance. The quality of B&M is great, they use teflon bushing instead of plastic from china...
You might want to check the OEM plastic shift linkage. It is the part that connects to the cable, and into which the ball on the end of the SSK goes. This OEM part is made of plastic and they tend to wear and get very loose. When I installed my B&M SSK, this part was quite worn and I replaced it with an Agency Power shift linkage which is machined out of Aluminum. It removed alot of the play. Redridge may be right about the quality of the bushings on the Ebay SSK, but it seems unlikely that they would have worn out so quickly, and you should be able to check this easily. If the bushings are tight now this is not the source of the sloppiness. Just my 2 cents worth.
