I went to the local Porsche dealership today (Downtown Porsche) in Toronto and was quoted $325 for a 4 wheel alignment. I'm wondering if this is the going price for Porsche as an alignment for BMW is only $169.00 ... also at the dealership.

I'm wondering if an alignment can be done at a tire shop as oppose to the dealership ... probably much cheaper too.

Any Canadians living in the Toronto or Greater Toronto Area who can recommend a shop that perform alignments on Porsche??

 

The price seems to be fair if it's included "bump steer". Porsche is practically a race car on the street. So the suspension has to be precise. My alignment took close to 2 hrs. and 3 test drive from an ex-cup driver and a $350 fee.

 

$325 seems to me to be excessive for alignment. The non dealer prices in Los Angeles from reputable shops are about half that price.

The max would be 200 bucks. If you're driving your car daily and you're not going to track, there is no point to get a full race alignment. The street is much rougher than the pavement on race track. After several speed bumps you might need to readjust your "race alignment". No point..

 

I don't think I paid that much for mine at Downtown Porsche (they also give a 10% discount to PCA members) when my car was under warranty. Now I use Courtney at EUAutowerks in Vaughan http://www.euautowerks.com/index.html. Great service and better prices that the dealers.

 

Might be a little out of your way, but Furtmair comes highly recomended, most of the PCNA members have probably heard of Uli Furtmair.

He is in Kitchener, but is a true Porsche specialist, true German Porsche attitude, but he knows his stuff!

 

I went to a local tire shop with a new alignment machine with flashing leds and cameras, computer printout of the before and after settings. With the tech, we went over each wheel adjustment camber and toe for the rear and caster, camber & toe for the front as well as thrust angle for the system. As far as bump steer, I was told by a reputable porsche guy that there was no adjustment for that, only camber and toe in the rear. Any way, the local shop took about an hour and a half, set the car up to my specs (factory basically but tighter on the tolerances) for $69.00 us. Any one with a new system like this should do it under 2 hours. The car runs quieter now and I do not smell burning rubber anymore.

Those newer Hunter DSP alignment units (with the pads vs wheel mirrors) are excellent and very accurate. Each wheel pad has some 25+ points where it measures from.......super cool stuff.

I think the bill was around $150, they do simulated weights and ask you what it's being set for "track" street etc.

Seems very high. I just had it done at the Porsche dealership and thought $179 was high.
