To the dreamers of a 997tt

I see some some potential posters who come here a lot but never post . Maybe they like to read but maybe some wish they had the car . Maybe they are as I was at some point when I didn't have a Porsche but dreamt of owning one . Now I never imagined getting a ding at the supermarket or having my xenon lights stolen as most of my dreams were based in fantasy driving bliss without any obstacles. In short --it was a fast car with no problems driving on aroad with no speed limits !!!

Ok --So here we are . You are reading my post and maybe it sounds like something that even others Porsche owners might relate to if they felt that way or remember .

If you have a 997tt and felt this -- let it out.
If you don't have one -- and imagine that you wanted one --tell why . Your Porsche 997tt dreams are worth sharing.

I didn't think it would be that hard learning to drive a manual again. Humbled me somethin' awful.

After the 997S I also felt like I was re learning as the first comfort feature I noticed was the clutch feel.

Thumbs up My Porsche dreams...

I'm one of those you talked about who "dreams" of one day having a Porsche.
My exotic car lusting began back in '89 or so when I picked up my first copy of DuPont Registry. Not sure how or why but something about these cars that were way out of my reach just fascinated me.
I've learned lots over the years from DuPont Registry. From Fs, Ls, Bs, MB, BMW, Panoz, RR, Bentley, Mayback, McLaren and now the newer SSC Aero TTs, S7s, Spyker, Koenigsegg. What I'm trying to say is that Porsche has always "stuck out" to me for some reason. I remember reading and being impressed as to how the Porsche 996 engineers would test their cars during R/D. Driving them in the hot temps in Australia going about 190MPH with the AC on for about 100 miles, driving them in the snow in Alaska, going from 0-60 and braking to a standstill only to accelerate again to 60 and stop again...doing this til one of the sensors on the brakes gave out and the pads were glowing red hot. The explanation the Porsche engineers would say was, "If you buy one of these cars for over $100K and you choose to drive it in the snow or desert you CAN and you know that it will handle whatever you throw at it". Kind of like Glock handguns that are reliable even thru sand, snow water etc. So I guess that sums it up pretty much. A Porsche is like a Glock when it comes to cars. Just when I thought it couldn't get much better than a 996TT with X50 package along came the 997TT. Top it off I live in the Dallas area which is where RUF (Addison, TX) calls home away from home. Thumbs up for all 997TT Porsche engineers and Hans at RUF to make it even faster/better. Thanks for reading...my two cents.

I bought a new 993 in 1995 with 272 HP trading in a nice 1993 RX7 tt.

The 993 had such solid doors and I liked its feel.

Porsche created a lot of hype on the new water cooled engine in 1999 and I just wanted to step up but waited to 2003.

I always wanted a Cab also,, so I went from 272 hp to 320 and it was a big step for me at that time.

Then I got ansy for a turbo and had to have a 997.

This car is 10X both of my former models.

Now I will have turbos until I cant do sports cars because of age.

The 997 TT is just incredible to me and I ve never regreted the decision to purchase it. The wait about killed me tho.

Indeed, a dreamer I am!

I come here "lurking" to get a vicarious taste of these fine machines.

I want my senses to be pummeled by never ending acceleration, I want to bruise my ribs with lateral force, I want my eyes to bleed with braking energy.
Then, to gaze at the tender beauty at rest, heart racing with the knowledge of the violence that waits under the gentle surface.

mmm...sorry got lost for a minute

I've liked cars since I was a little kid playing with hotwheels and micromachines. I watched magnum P.I. just to take a look at the Ferrari at first (later started liking the show) I drew cars and boats when I was growing up, and always stared at every Porsche, Ferrari, that drove by me. One day, I took a drive in a my friend's dad 1987 (if I remember correctly) trubo cab. There was no turning back, I was hooked.

Fast Forward to 2008....I own a 2004 Cayenne S that I enjoy greatly. I check 6speed online daily, go through the 997, Turbo, Cayenne forums among others. I am up to date with wheels, color combos, performance mods, front bumpers, rear wings for 997's even though I am not even close budget wise to owning one at the moment. It's ok, ill get one eventually, for now, I enjoy viewing, reading other peoples experiences as well as posting my own.

My dream should be here in about two weeks - oh my god, I can't stand the wait - now that it is so close I can hardly contain my enthusiasm.

I have a 997 S cab and ordered a t-cab last week. I swore I would never order a car and wait for it. But now Im in count down mode as many of you have done. When I was 14 my brother inlaw tossed me the keys to his 911 S and let me take it out by myself without a license. It made a lasting impression and although I've had many types of cars I always knew someday I would own a Porsche. Im not wealthy like many of you but I have pretty respectable earning power at this phase of my life and getting a t-cab truthfully is a dream come true.

No matter how much anyone has he can spend a lot of it on cars . If one can buy the car , then the next level is to mod it . One mod becomes two and two becomes 20 . Whether it's a Porsche or a less expensive car most car afficionados spend a lot to live the dream.

And what about those whose wealth is tremendous ? Not me .

My guess is that they simply buy more cars . Even though a person can only drive one car at a time and multiple cars can face the headache of repair , those realities are not part of the dream.

I don't have many cars but when I buy a Porsche the dream has always been the same .... It's the thought of sitting in that car on a road enjoying every bit of owning that car .

There is a certain emotion which I feel on my very first drive home with my new Porsche . For me its usually begins with a combinaton of immense joy meshed with buyers remorse as I exit the dealership . Then as those first miles two or three miles are driven I feel this calm before an immense surge of happiness .

It's the best way I can descibe automotive bliss .

I'd like to own a 997 turbo. I'm going to wait until I'm a little bit older and prices start to drop more...besides, I've already owned 2 corvettes (1994 6 speed C4 and a 2007 C6) along with a couple of others, but right now I'm just enjoying my new 335i :-) i don't want a car that fast just yet. I feel it has to be the right time for a 911 turbo...and I've got all the time in the world.

For me it is about the engineering. It seems that Porsche is one of the very few car manufacturers that seem to make no-holds cars. They only limit their cars to what they want to limit their cars to, and they've stuck so firmly to original design that it doesn't matter if you have a first gen 911 or a 997, you can still see that it is a 911. The amount of engineering that went into overcoming the engine placement, as well, not mentioning the boxer six itself. I'm big on the engineering aspect of the cars. I guess that is why I am a rotary guy as well. (I've owned four rotaries in the past four years, and currently own two).

I'm not looking to buy a 997 turbo, or a turbo model at all, actually. I am here to do a lot of research more than anything else, but a 911 will be my next car purchase.
