Purchasing advise: TT/Gallardo/R8/360
Purchasing advise: TT/Gallardo/R8/360
I have the following questions. Thanks for reading and replying. All cars are preowned.
Choices of cars
997 TT
Gallardo
R8
Ferrari 360
Budget: $140k
Reliability
I know TT is the most suitable for DD. but how is the Gallardo, R8, 360? Can I put 8000 miles on it every year? Will it break down. What are some common problems? Maintenance? Im not looking to DD the car, but definitely drive the car at least 8000 miles per year
Resale value
After putting 8000 miles on it for 2-3 years. Which car will have the best value?
Handling/steering
TT drives just like the S. Its not much of a difference. I m actually quite disappointed with how the performance is not much of a step above the S.
Price: Dealers told me I can only get 1% off of all the above cars. I ve heard the S can go as big as 7%. 1% is barely $2000. How much discount can I get? Porsche dealer also said New TT coupe/cab is sold at MSRP.
Performance: I only test drove the TT cab, are the other cars that much better?

1) you won't be able to find an r8 for 140k, let alone 1% discount on it
2) you can't really be comparing porsche/audi to f-car/lambo
technically, you can "dd" any of those..would it be efficient to do it? no. if you are already putting a max budget for the car, do yourself a favor and just drop the 360/gallardo since you need to factor in the maintenance/repairs etc mostly because neither of those will be new enough at 140k to have any type of warranty left
if you need a car now and your max is 140k, get the turbo. once the v12 r8's come out, the current v8s will probably start to drop in pricing and that would be the closest competition to the tt as far as reliability and efficiently goes. maybe you can also look into the new aston martin vantage, the 09s will have increased power and will be about 135k loaded (i'm hoping to add one to garage by the end of this year)

Found 2 Gallardo for less than 130k. I have 10k to reserve for repair and maintenance for 2 years. Is this enough?
I agree with the R8. cant afford it right now.
TT: I just cant justice paying 40000$ more than the S. and almost double of the non S. Its fast but it drives the same. Correct me if Im wrong.

Isn't the 2004 Gallardo the one that had all the clutch problems? Wasn't it something like a clutch a year even with light use at $6K - $8K per clutch? I would suspect that on a 2004 Gallardo you would be looking at between $1.00 - $1.50 per mile in maintenance. If you want to drive it 8,000 miles per year, you should budget $10,000 for maintenance in that year. Some pay less, some pay more. It is pretty much a crap shoot. But if I remember correctly, the 2004 was particularly unreliable. That's what I was told by the salesman at Lambo of OC anyway.
Good luck in your search.

DD- 8K miles/yr - TT or R8
But, please let me know where you are getting a discounted R8 from - I've heard the only dealerships doing that are on Mars and the shipping charge is really high.
i moved from an S to a TT, and aside from the power, the handling was a major factor that pushed me towards the upgrade... maybe u havent had much seat time and push to the limit experience with it in order to see the diff. between the S and the TT.
TT feels and IS much more grippier than S, more direct, way less understeer than the S.
the power diff. alone is worth half the price u paid for it

Thats true. a cousin of mine fell for the low pricing of 04 gallardos, he ended up having the problem and sold off the car with the problem.
Beware of 04 Gallardos, thats y they go cheaper on resale.
