Need Advice....

I'm looking for a daily driver, new or used no coupes, only sedan or SUV.
If new I would lease and need my payment to be between 400-500 per month, if I buy i'm not spending more than 40-45k.
Any advice/opinions would be greatly appreciated......
here are some of the cars/SUVs I'm looking at,
used 40-45k: x5 4.8, cayenne, cls 55 amg, g-wagen.
used 20-25k: jeep srt 8 (one passed me yesterday, looked and sounded pretty cool)

Evo X MR, dont call me crazy until you go drive it. AWD, doable in crap weather and makes any commute fun. They are dealing big time on them.

New STI over the Evo X all day, imo. I've test driven both and ended up buying the STI, even though I like the look of EVO more. Only drove the tiptronic Evo, it felt like a heavy german car to me. It should be compared some car like M3 now. Driving the STI is much more fun, it's like go-kart

I like the range rover sport personally.

Or maybe the new GLK, I like its new boxy design. Looks small enough to be useful, but still have all the SUV amenities.

If not, then based on your choices I would go:
Cayenne -> X5 in that order.

Also I would probably stay away from the 4.8 as my M5 ate gas like a beast (7.8mpg) and Im sure the 4.8 would be up there as well.

I don't know the price range in USA, but Cayenne is the way to go from your alternatives IMO

Mercedes Benz 350 . There were so many 27 month leases handed out on 07 that the used lots are swimming in inventory on that car . A car which sold for 57K can be bought for upper 20's . You have a huge selection . I had one BTW before the M3 and liked it . MB custer service in my region was top notch and the car was reliable . Ideal daily driver . Get the sport package and upgraded sound.

Look for a used Audi S6 (with the V10) or E55 (S/C V8). Great sedans, plenty of room, and big powerful motors. Sounds like either one might suit your needs perfectly!

I recently heard of an S6 with 12k miles going for $44k!!

If it falls into your budget line, M5 would also be a good choice

JS1967 is infamous around these parts
cayenne would be a good choice, wait another month and you will probably be able to find an S550 for 45k.

IMO...I did not like the SRT 8 when I drove it. Clunky feeling. Puts up the #'s but the inside is just not finished very well. Bad seating position.

If you are spending 40-45k to buy...the G wagon will need to be older and have a bit more miles then the others. Cayenne? which model? you can get a new V6 for that money, especially a left over car.

X5's are nice. And those would fit into your budget.

You live in New York...so a CLS 55 AMG is a bad idea for a daily driver.

It is tough for us New Englanders...I have been in this dillemma so many times because I always say Im going to get a practical car for where I live and then I have bought so many sporty cars that are terrible in the bad weather. The urge usually comes when the snow goes away...but once it is back...if you have other cars to enjoy I would get an SUV. Dont spend a ton. Just have it for practical use. BTW..what is wrong with your 750 BMW for a daily?

Anyway that is my advice. Like I said...I had the same issues. I picked up a 08 Land Rover LR3, blacked it out with 22's and only paid about 33k for it with 7k miles. A steal. Now I will keep that and focus on my sports cars.

Hope that helps.
D

Let me know if you are considering any others....I have basically driven them all and have an opinion on them.

Agreed. That's why I would suggest the Audi S6 if you can find one in the price range. With Quattro and a halfway decent set of snow tires, it's perfect for the winter, but even better for the summer.
