Before you hate the PDK drive one. I drove a 2010 today and was thrilled with the operation of the PDK.

Why didn't they offer it in the 997.2 GT3 if PDK is supposedly better for the track?
Porsche said they didn't see the benefit of adding the additinal weight of the system. They also said something to the affect that the PDK was not install freindly for the GT1 block. They would have had to come up with some mechanism to make it fit.

Interesting. Thanks GB. Additional weight makes sense. Wonder what it is about the GT1 that made it prohibitive.

From reading on a few other sites, it appears to be a dimensional issue with the physical space it takes to install the double clutch system. I'll see if I can dig up the thread.

I think spreading rumors and causing mass hysteria makes for a much more entertaining thread

Well the tt is slowly morphin into a Gt. If you really want a drivers car, buy a GT3. I have heard the turbo Ss might only come in PDK. Just rumors though so far. As for a GT-R being cheaper to maintain, I don't think so. The repair costs I have seen with the popping hood for example, as well as the clutch and tranny not lasting is certainly going to cost your more than what I pay maintaining my tt.

I always say: no clutch, no glory!

I also don't like the looks of the rear end of the new turbo.

Has anyone ordered a new 2010 with a 6-speed? Please speak up.
What has happened to the car culture? I can't believe what I am reading and surly change is not always good. I hope for Porsche's sake they don't lose guys like me to another car company. I am running out of options for a pure, drivers car. I hate what is happening, and I know I am not alone.
Quality and soul out the window! I think I would rather own a GTR then a PDK Turbo, I would save money and the Nissan has to be cheaper to fix.

It's not that I mind a 4-door Porsche or an automatic with paddles, but I do As for the new motor, lets just wait and see what happens
I own 2 6-speeds, sit in Chicago traffic every day and love it, now who is with me?
I don't own a Porsche, and I realize that saying this with nothing but slushboxes in my garage may seem hypocritical, but I am 100% with you. I love the song and dance of rowing through gears and while I will not tell Porsche to stop selling PDKs, I hope they (and other manufacturers, for that reason) continue to produce the traditional manuals for those of us who would take one any day. AMG, unfortunately, seems to be a lost cause with the traditional manual gearboxes... -m

I agree. I think they will keep making traditional manual gear boxes as long as there is a demand. For true sports cars, I think there is. Mercedes is more of a luxury touring brand rather than a sports car, that's probably why you see less and less manuals in their cars.

If I read correctly ... some of the new ferrari's can't even be bought in a manual configuration? Is that correct?

And from a mercedes perspective, the tranny has always blown. At least they are improving it by putting in the new dual clutch type in the SLS, SL63 and now the E63.

Btw I agree regarding the turbo is a GT now. While sure it does awesome track times ... the real track stars are clearly the GT3 etc models. I've been driving mine the last 3 days and this definitely is an everyday car.

A big plus one to this thread. Everyone going with electronic gearboxes is redundant and boring. I like the PDK in the TT, but if it goes into the GT2 and GT3, Porsche is selling out IMO.

2-5 seconds is laughable and a joke, no way. Maybe 2 seconds for a complete noob. Lucky to get 1 second for a good driver.

A mechanical sequential with engine braking is a different story.

In the mid to late 60's I could have had a vette with gobs of HP but elected to have an MGBGT..

it had abt 100 HP with a 4 speed BUT it was so much fun to drive.

there is more to having fun than plain acceleration. I loved driving the MG on back roads even tho it was 1/10 the car that my turbo is.

Speed and acceleration are just part of the equation to me but a manual is a must in this venue.
