Agreed. For driving fun, there is not choice. The PDK has its place, but not when the need for fun is involved.

I think any technology that makes a car faster and safer to drive is good technology.

Well, there is safety, fast and then there is FUN! To me, the last one is what I look for the most in a sports car. While an automated manual is a big step up from a conventional automatic, it doesn't give me the same satisfaction and sense of control as a clutch...

I have the DSG transmission in our GTI and do enjoy it but like my BMW with its conventional manual still better...

Not to mention, maintenance and repairs on automated manuals are big $$$$

Having driven the PDK in a Carrera S, I can say the launch control is very cool. On Sport Plus, I don't think I had ever (until driving the turbo) been faster to 60 mph. Still, I passed on it and got a 6 speed 09 tt. Having never owned an auto since 1986 (except my wife's truck) I can't believe how disconnected I felt driving it. The buttons are very confusing too. I meant to downshift on the highway and upshifted into 7th instead. The car yawned at me, when in fact I wanted a flash of power to pass. Instead of driving I feel like I'm playing a video game!

I am waiting for the groove change in 2011
Some technology should only be for people that fail a driving exam.
Did I see a VW badge on that Pan?

yup, and you can always buy an SC with the 915 trans for a "real manual" experience ...
Oh, those were the days....NOT (but after a couple tries the wifey never drove it again, meaning I had it all to myself!)

there is more to having fun than plain acceleration. I loved driving the MG on back roads even tho it was 1/10 the car that my turbo is.

Speed and acceleration are just part of the equation to me but a manual is a must in this venue.

I own 2 6-speeds, (the other is a 5 series wagon), I sit in NY traffic every day and love every minute of it -- If Porsche ever stops building manuals while I am able to drive, I will be crushed... I am definitely with you!!!

I dont know where all these #'s in 1 test are derived from but i can tell you hands down bottom line its a FACT that if someone who is an above AVG driver not POOR driver drives a DCT trans car they will go faster..

The R35 skyline is as quick as it is HANDS DOWN due to that trans..

If you take a pro racer in both cars it might not be huge but in a track like Sebring that big its around 3 seconds difference for a VERY GOOD driver not a drive that sucks.. For a driver that sucks you can see as much as 10 seconds ill bet..

Nothing you show me will convince me otherwise sorry.. I have driven them all including my SMG M5 and no 6 speed M5 can touch my M5. PERIOD..

The 09 TT's (997.1's) did not have PDK. No GT1 block to my knowledge has PDK. Apparently it cant be done or it is not practical..

I can show you how I do not put lipstick on while driving, so I can use my right hand for um shifting
BMW admitted SMG was a creation from the Warranty claims department, how many over revs have we seen on an M since SMG?
I stopped buying BMW's when SMG 1 was introduced it was like driving with my mom, oh and teaching her how to drive stick. No thanks, I'll let my brain tell the car what to do and when.
