Short version - 2007 black on black turbo for me!
Long version:
Been lurking and learning here for a while. I was waiting for the Cdn dollar to come to par which it is close to. Noticed that the "good" cars seem to get snapped up pretty quickly...the market is definitely picking up.
Saw the car online at Marshall-Goldman. Asking almost $93k. Spoke with a broker in Montreal who is a 6-speed member also (I'll give props to him when the car is actually here) who is "connected" and I thought that perhaps it would be worthwhile to go through the broker to get the car into Canada thinking that I might score a better deal too. Last year he was able to get a pretty good discount for a 2008 turbo with low miles but I hesitated and it got sold. This time he claimed that he couldn't get anything knocked off. I'm sure he figured out I was ready to buy at this point so he and the dealer really didn't have to haggle too much knowing that there probably would be a sale. Especially since I ponied up the $400 for an on-site PPI from a local Porsche dealer.
It's a 2007 black on black. I had originally thought it listed for $137k but subsequently discovered it "only" listed for $130,700 - my misunderstanding I guess. Not a huge issue. I would've been happier if it had listed for 137k with the same options though. lol, we all like to think we scored the deal of a lifetime! I had really wanted the Adaptive Sports seats. Not that I've driven in the other ones and I've only driven a 997tt once before. The Adaptive seats have that nice aluminum looking backing on them which just looks cool.
Options:
thicker steering wheel
multifunction wheel
sports chrono
heated seats
front air intakes painted
rear view mirror leather (seriously? and why no adaptives
)
illuminated door sills
Porsche crest
aluminum foot rest
I would have liked deviated stitching, short-throw shifter, some carbon etc... but do I really care that it didn't have the ostrich butt-hair headliner for a measly $1800? Nah, not really. At the end of the day, I've been dreaming about a "911 turbo" for a long time and it's gonna happen.
I spoke with the Porsche tech who did the inspection and he pretty well confirmed that it was in really good condition as advertised. A few range 1 overrevs, a small amount of range 2, and NONE higher than that! The last owner was a 71 year old doctor who owned it for 1.5 years. The first owner only put on 1800 miles or so. The doc had bought the CPO with it, apparently the older version which has a limited amount of coverage. However, since it wasn't being sold from a Porsche dealer the CPO was no longer effective.
I got to thinking - I read here that some guys had managed to get a deal put through a Porsche dealer and since I was speaking with the owner of the North-Olmsted dealership about the PPI I asked him about doing that for a little extra money. I had read here that the warranty costs 2k and a "bonus" of 1k would be reasonable. He basically offered it for $2600 plus the 400 bucks I had already spent so I thought that was sensible.
I wasn't able to get a cent reduced off the asking price and I was told that there was a serious buyer coming on the weekend to see the car. May have just been a line. But I've watched 3 cars I've wanted slip out of my grasp because I've waited too long. Yeah I wanted adaptive seats but from my recent searches I haven't found many cars that meet my price and needs so although I probably overpaid at least I know that this car has really been babied and it will cost me about 10 to 15k LESS than what the cars in Canada have been going for (and getting sold quickly no less!).
Can't wait till it comes. Gonna see if that demo AWE exhaust is still available. Not sure if I'm going to wait on the ECU upgrades since I paid for the CPO and I don't want to bork that up. We'll see.
Anyways, thanks guys for all the useful info here and looking forward to the pleasure of BOOST!

Awesome Bogg - glad to hear it worked out!
I think you did the right thing by not waiting around. I too had one slip out from under me a month ago. I think the market looks weak because there are a lot of slightly less than desirable cars out there (weird combinations, low options, etc). Not sure how much, but given the C$ strength of late and the fact there are at least 3 of us Canadians posting about buying US cars in the last few days, I'm sure that is having a bit of an effect on the overall porsche market as well.
Best of luck with the car and hope you enjoy it for years to come.

Thanks Larry. I was going to PM you and see if you had more pics of those rims. don't worry, the chances of us pulling up to the same stoplight are minimal! Which rims are they and what size? I'm looking for the "deep dish" look on the rears.
5500 miles. I think they are the std sport seats. They look like the adaptives without the extra "bump" near the shoulders. They have the stitching on the seat as opposed to the "ruffles".

I transferred half the money into my US account yesterday and the other half this morning while the Cdn dollar had a little surge, just before it pulled back again. Phew. Every dollar saved is a dollar that goes towards
upgrades!
