4,000 miles and the sport/chrono function
After 4,000 miles in my (new to me) 2007 Turbo, I have really come to appreciate the sport chrono function on my car. At first I thought it was somewhat of a gimmick, and the chrono function a waste since I don't track. But, now that I have spent some time behind the wheel, I have changed my mind. In normal mode, the car is very comfortable on the road, and plenty of power for daily driving. Sometimes though, I like to get a little "aggressive" on some roads near my house where traffic is almost non-existent and there are some pretty nice curves to traverse.
It's not just the added boost. I have been surprised by the difference in how the car tightens up with the sport button engaged. I can take a couple of the curves at about 75 and without the sport button the rear wiggles just a little bit. Not so in sport. Likewise, I appreciate being able to return to normal mode for daily driving. The sport settings are a little stiff for the roads I travel daily and could get a little old if I had no options.
In a nutshell, I continue to be impressed with this generation 911.

In more spirited driving you will find out that in normal mode the car understeers while in sport mode it is more RWD biased and oversteers.By adding a little more negative camber to rear axle, car is transformed and in sport mode had more fun to drive...
You'll get a 10 second burst of extra power when overboost kicks in but that's it for additional power with the SC.
I noticed that in sport mode the gas pedal mapping is more aggressive. Small movement of the pedal makes a bigger movement of the throttle. It can be annoying until you get used to it.
The extra torque you get in sport mode shows up mid range, so right about the bottom after a shift.
Ours is a 6MT, have no idea how it behaves with a pdk.

Hey, glad this thread came back up! I just crossed the 10k mile threshold
... I have certainly learned more about the handling of the car and my feel is better. I love it just as much as I did when i bought it.
I will say this too ... I recently bought a Panamera with the PDK and it is very impressive. It is so much better than Tip, and perfect for the Panamera. I can only imagine how it enhances control in a 997TT. However, I just can't think about giving up the thrill of pedal and row when I want to do it. Paddle shifters are just a novelty to me. Everyone has different preferences, so take it for what it's worth. I'm not saying one is better than the other. I may change my mind in the future. You never know.
