New TTS vs used 08 GT2
New TTS vs used 08 GT2
My TTS is coming in a couple of months. I'm wondering if I should have gotten a used GT2 instead. The car is going to be more of a daily driver, I liked the idea of PDK, occasional use back seats, all wheel drive etc. I have a 996 GT3, 997.2 RS already. I guess I'm a little too hardcore.
Having owned multiple 996 and 997 Turbos, 996 and 997 GT3, 997.1 GT3RS, Cayennes, etc, I can tell you the GT2 is utterly amazing. It does give a little to the GT3 in nimbleness and exhaust note but gains a lot in power and torque. It is my favorite Porsche to date.
That being said, with no backseat ( i have 3 kids), no bluetooth(phone rings constantly), no real alternative to the semi-slick tires which are terrible in standing water(don't ask), heavy clutch and notchy shifter it would not make a great daily driver even though I find it comfortable to drive.
Even with those drawbacks, I drive it half the time because I can't stand being away from it.
Hope that helps.

you have a 996 GT3 and a 997.2 RS?!? Seems your bases are covered in the balz out performance department. The electronics and creature comforts of the 997.2 are very livable day to day, and even useful! If you were only to have one Porsche I might say the GT-2, but an addition to that stable and a daily driver... TTS all the way.
Either way you're in for an awesome ride, and you will be wondering if you would be better off with the other unit. I like the precision and sharpness of the GT2, but it's not very comfortable for trips. I'm hardcore too and had to have the GT2, but it comes at. a price. Your TT will be a lot better for trips and if you need to transport kids, it's the only choice. You can't go wrong with your new unit, so relax, quit torturing yourself and enjoy what's coming.
Thanks all - I'll stay with the turbo S for now. Will wait a couple of years and maybe pick up a used GT2.
