Bob, Chuck?

I have a couple of porsches, one since 1997. I certainly enjoy driving them hard and find it difficult to understand the 5,000 mile owners of 2 year old "garage queen" cars. Life is short and I don't care about rock chips and dirty wheels. Anyway, the reason for my rant is that I am disappointed in the reply and blockage of my very honest question regarding ECU upgrade for my turbo. I was looking for owners of similar vehicles with experience on similar questions and interest in modifying/upgrading their car. I got a few replies and then the sponsors got involved and they obviously are biased and have products to sell and egos to massage. I believe educated and experienced car owners are my best chance of purchasing the best products/equipment for my car. I would rather learn from other's mistakes and successes than to be manipulated by car enthusiast and companies selling products to rich dudes with no clue. I think your whole gig would work better if your eliminated the sponsors and allowed the car owners to speak of their own experience. Just my opinion.

PS I get more joy and satisfaction from my 14' carolina skiff with 25 HP yamaha catching beautiful 20 count shrimp in the creeks off the SC coast with my 11 year old son than the turbo! The car thing is just kind of an interesting diversion from work.

I would repost your thread and this time I would make it clear that you want to hear from members and not sponsors..and if a sponsor jumps in your thread tell them to get lost and/or report the post

thanks. I am relatively new to your site and have not taken the time to look thru old threads. I just shot off a few questions regarding wheels, windshield issues, and this computer thing. I did not realize what a controversial subject it was. I just wanted to get a little more HP without damaging the engine or possibly the warranty.

We're happy to change the name of this thread or have you open a new thread, but I'd make it clear that you want member opinions, not vendors...otherwise it just becomes a mess...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my impression is that any flash of the ECU will void your warranty. Even if you flash back to stock, I'm told that they can always figure it out.

correct SS...my understanding from Porsche NA, my dealer, tech and several respected tuners is that there is no flash or program modification that does not leave a trace...any changes can be detected even if the stock program is reconfigured and reloaded so as to make it look like a stock program...the fact that a programming event has taken place will still be recorded and can be detected by anyone that wants to find it...this is not to say there haven't been some flashes or program changes that have been made and were subsequently not detected or were ignored by the dealer who permitted a warranty claim...(this is where it gets cloudy because there are those out there that claim their programming was not or is not detectable because it was missed at some point either out of carelessness or indifference)....but if a dealer or Porsche NA were determined to check because of a warranty issue if any programming has been done they will be able to detect it and void your warranty if they so desire...just a word to the wise

Yes, I think same as GT3 and cc. I have to believe that the ecu is recording data like date and mileage. So even if reflashed to before change there would still be a gap in data recorded.

I agree...but there are others who think otherwise - check posts 21, 23 and 26 in this thread http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...ney-shift.html

The post about this being published in Excellence may have been "tongue-in-cheek" since I've not seen anything that would say there is a tool or a hack that erases traces of programming.

I can think of only one way to wipe an ECU...to bench flash it and reprogram it with PIWIS (like when you create a cloned ECU.) Only a handful of people have this capability. If I remember correctly, the hours of use, Imob code, and other data are stored in a separate chip outside of the 29F800 chip (which holds the data programming for the engine files.) Info stored outside of this is what is looked at with PIWIS during a vehicle analysis. The data stored here must be rewritten or changed differently than how flashes are uploaded to 29F800.

Chuck and Bob, or (Bob and Chuck? ) have hit this square on the nose. Research on here, ask questions freely, determine for yourselves. I know you do not want sponsors in here clogging up your threads with posts about their monthly sales, I am here simply to tell you that no matter what you do, at the end of the day when you get your credit card charged or you mail that check to your tuner, you have made a commitment with a team of individuals that they will perform as advertised. It goes both ways in this industry. Put up or shut up, or in this case, tune the car to the best of your abilities or get reported out in the open so people can hear for it themselves, not in back alley conversations at your local HPDE...

Your tuner and his team should be as close as your family, if you have their file in your car or it is at their facility for a month you have every right to know the who what where why and how about pretty much anything. At least that is how we operate here at Switzer.

If you have any questions about anything, call me. I am open to conversation. I may not tell you what you want to hear but I will tell you the truth.
