HID bulb upgrade

I was running out of projects so I decided to change out the stock HID bulbs (4300K) for different color/temperature. As noted by other members, color temperature varies alot by bulb manufacturers. It's probably best to go with big names like Philips but they were almost twice the cost of other brands. Furthermore, Philips Ultinons 6K didn't look "unique" enough for me.

After lengthy search, I decided to go with Garax bulbs from Japan (sold by Car Light Trends). Initially I had the 8000K which matched my Hoen DLED lights but just little too blue for my liking. I finally got the Garax 6000K and it's absolutely perfect (at least for my taste). Provides a clean white color with slight tinge of blue.

Sorry for the bad pictures but OEM 4300 looks something like this:

Here's comparison between 8K (right) and 6K (left) Garax bulbs

And finally a couple shots of 6K Garax bulbs

Make sure you get D2S bulbs. Switching out the lights are fairly straight forward and nicely described in the manual. Takes at most 10min per side.

SBkim,

When you refer to right/left... are you referring to the actual right/left as you are facing the car from the front?

Or driver's side being left and the passenger side being right?

Picky I know, I should have probably just read your post for what it is... right is right and left is left just looking at the picture, right (correct?)?

My apologies, I should have made it more clear. I meant passenger side is 8000K and driver is 6000K. I have a US spec car

Good examples!

On another note, a very good match for Hoen's LED bulbs are Philips Ultinon...6000K pure white...excellent match as well.

As Ive been saying/telling for years 6K is the way to go. Anything higher in kelvin is too blue/purple and not as bright. Looks great man!

Yep, you guys were right on about 6K. As I said above, temperature varies greatly among different manufacturers. I HIGHLY recommend Carlightrends as they stand behind their products and sell genuine Garax bulbs and other high quality lines like Philips. Dave at Carlighttrends provided excellent customer service through my ordeal of looking for the perfect bulbs. I must have gone through 4 sets! LOL.

Im a big fan of the Ultinons, they do match the Hoen LEDs nicely but getting harder to find. These pics sure look like a close match also, nice job.

gmoney - I actually bought one of my first garax (I went through three sets! excluding one other brand) from JDMToys (they sell it on Newegg). Unfortunately, these didn't look like the ones I got from Carlighttrends. There was no marking or serial number on these Garax from JDMtoys/Newegg and box was different. Furthermore, the lights would flicker. Luckily, they were nice enough to refund my money (minus shipping).

Do you have any picts with ultinons? You are right, these are getting hard to find and some are sold by shady dealers on ebay so I didn't want to risk it. I had them in my Viper and it was nice but still didn't look too different from OEM - may be I had defective set...
