Winter Upgrades Completed
Winter Upgrades Completed
Just wanted to share with the group the upgrades to my 997.1 TT that were completed today. I'm so pleased with the results I can hardly stand it and can't wait until March for the first 2011 track event at VIR. The major modification was the APR ECU flash. I also went with Bombarcher Straight Race Pipes and the sound while loud is totally awesome. To improve braking I added SS brake lines, GT2 rear brake air ducts and had the front duct/cooling enhanced thru a minor modification to the existing. Also replaced rotors with new Girodiscs and new Padgid Yellow RS29 pads. Did normal maintenance ( plugs, oil, etc. ) and had to replaced two radiators due to small leaks so I went ahead and added SS mesh to front grille intakes. I had already done the TPC stage 3+ suspension package, track alignment and corner balance and added GMG roll bar, Sparco DTM seats and Schroth 6 pt.harness so the car is about where I want it to be.
Although I have only had the car for the afternoon with the flash, and the weather in Indianapolis is cold and wet I did get a good feel for the tremendous power the APR flash has added. I'm telling you it's an absolute rocket and with the straight pipes it sounds the way I had always hoped the car would sound. I really don't drive my car on the street very much and I'm not totally hung up on straight line speed, but I do track my car as much as I can and with this power and suspension setup I'm sure I will be more than pleased. Big thumbs up to TPC, APR, and Ian Bass owner of EPWerks in Indianapolis for helping me.

Kerry,
Great to hear from you and look forward to seeing you in the spring. VIR is March 14 & 15 and I know of at least 3 or 4 guys from Champagne making the trip so you should come with the caravan. My front camber is maxed out at negative 1.5...the car is lowered so as I understand it you pick up some due to that. The rear is negative 2.4. The specs were provided by TPC for my car/tires etc. In my non-technical non-mechanical opinion, I think I would like more negative camber in the front as I am wearing the outside front of driver side tire pretty badly. Might be "operator" error as I'm continuing to try and push and there is a balance between smooth and aggressive.
Thanks for the note and stay in touch.
Mick

The GT2 air ducts are at the link: http://www.fvd.de/us/en/Porsche-0/99...t----Rear.html
The install was fairly simple and it looks a very clean. I have not "tested" them on the track yet but the concept, design and look seems like it should help. For the front a 4" by 6" cut was made in the fender lining and then SS mesh put over the hole.

I don't thinks it's operator error, Mick. I've got -2 on the front of my 996TT (I've got Tarett monoball camber plates) and I still wear the outsides pretty good.
Trending Topics
Greg Morrison (drives a silver '99 Carrera with a GT3 kit) has the Tarett lower control arms and is happy with them. He says they are a bit cheaper than the OEM Porsche and the shims to set the camber are a lot cheaper.
Tarret sells oem porsche motorsport gt3 LCAs with a bracket that allows them to be used on the 997tt easily. ~800$ for a pr. If you have dog bones in the rear, you only need fronts. Also, rss makes a very slick set, ~900$. Buyer's choice!
I could get only about 1.9 max with my gmg setup (avatar), these should allow -3.0 easily.
