confused...

Hello guys,
I was wondering if you could help me out with my decision regarding a choice between a slightly used 997 turbo mk1 and a slightly used 997 turbo mk2 PDK. I would really like your opinion on which car is the best choice taking into account some very important factors as well
First of all, if I decide to go for the mk1 I intent to have the car tuned by RUF to an RT600. I am a big fan of RUF cars so RUF tuning is almost a dead end for me. On the other hand a PDK is an impressive piece of engineering and the gear box totally transforms the car into a beast. But the disappointment to that is that If I want to have the PDK tuned I can go to not more than 580hp taking into account that the PDK gear box can withstand a limmited amount of torque.
I also thought about the fact that the GT2 would also be a good choice, but on the other hand I don't intent to track the car so there is no point for the GT2 although I adore it.
Please take your time and post some of your thoughts, feel free to comment on any other issues or solutions that might be better in terms of value for money and power at the same time. Thank you in advance.

George

Food for thought.

Ruf 600 0-200 is ~10.8-11 seconds, 100-200 is 7.4-7.6 seconds

1. 997 Turbo + Ruf 600 VTG package is still slower than a stock 997.2 Turbo.

2. 997 Turbo + Ruf 600 VTG package is about as quick as a stock 997 GT2.

3. 997 Turbo + Ruf 600 VTG package is about as quick as a Ruf 550 until 200 km/h, then it pulls away.

4. Ruf 600 VTG package is $40-50K US dollars.

Thanks a lot for your reply. I appreciate your help. I think that the most important of all is the 4th one that you mentioned. The RUF 600 kit is really expensive and this actually raises the car's price a lot. But from what I have read and with all the searching and talking with different guys that are into motorsport for years, I have reached into a certain conclusion. First of all the RUF 600 package is actually more like a 630 one. If you look at the dyno graphs that RUF provides there is no other kit producing 850 Nm of torque at 2.750/min with 600 horses ONLY. All 600 packages from different tuners produce like 750Nm of torque to something like 3500 rpms.

Another thing I would like to comment is the 0-200Km/h times. I think that they go like this:
RUF 600: 10.8s
997 turbo mk2 manual: 11.9s
997 turbo mk2 PDK: 11.3s
997 GT2 stock: 10.9s

But I think that the key point to my decision is that the RUF kit is really expensive as you mentioned... That means that a slightly used 997 mk1 with the RUF 600 kit costs as much as a stock slightly used 997 turbo mk2 PDK. What a difficult choice... maybe I should better consider a 997 GT2...

Is RUF offering tunes for the 997.2 TT? Better check with them on that.

The greatest thing about the online community is the experience that people are willing to share. If you haven't driven all four cars, I would recommend that you line them up and see for yourself. I've driven and raced all 4, including my own 997TT Ruf 550 and 997 GT2.

If you think that a 997.2TT with PDK is slower than a GT2, I've got news for you. The PDK turbos are very very good drag racers, far better than the GT2.

If your Ruf 600 isn't in a Tiptronic, you'll never see a run to 200 km/h in anything under 11 seconds.

Sorry...just the facts.

I guess you're right, yeah why not. It's not surprising that the results in real life are actually different than some absolute 0-200 times. It's not surprising that the turbo PDK is a beast although its horsepower is not extremely exotic at all. The PDK gearbox is a masterpiece obviously. Thanks for the info, you've been really helpful!!
