Tire Pressure...Computer or Compressor???
Hey guys. I was topping up my tires today, as I just got the car insured for the summer. On my electronic tire pressure gauge, which is built into the air compressor, showed 44 psi. But on the dashboard computer, it reads 40 psi. Both reading were taken right away another with cold tires. I was wondering which gauge to follow? Should I top up another 4 psi till the computer reads 44 or trust the electronic tire pressure gauge? Thanks.
Neither. Buy a Longacre or similar high quality gauge with bleeder valve and use it regularly. Also, why are you setting cold temps at 44? Porsche recommends 33 front/39 rear cold. Best
My car reads 37 Front and 44 Rear cold pressure on the inside of the door.
Then I guess 44 is appropriate, my apologies. Do you have a cab? My 08 TT coupe is 33/39 which is what I based my comment on. It's pretty easy to add 10 lbs pressure on a hot day under track-like conditions, if you drive like that, and most tires have a top pressure rating of 51 lbs or so not to mention they get very greasy when pressures get up there. Perhaps others have better info than I. Best,
Neither are accurate, both are woefully inaccurate. Even a $20 gauge is better. Try this, it's one of the industry standards.

Here is what I use. Considered the best gauge on the market, but pricey. Worth it in my opinion. It auto calibrates for temp, altitude, humidity, and internal diagnostics at turn on. Great bleeder.

Label on door frame is for full load, i.e., passengers plus luggage. I believe if you check the manual you will see factory rec of around 34 front/ 40 rears. I found this out as result of another post on this site. I use a brookstone gauge with bleeder to check pressure and it usually matches computer, after I've driven a few hundred yards.
