The most expensive mirror upgrade known to man!
The most expensive mirror upgrade known to man!
So my old TechArt carbon fiber mirror inserts were looking a little old, faded, chipped and well dilapidated. Certainly in need of being replaced.
I picked up a pair for a steel, $50 for the pair (1/3 the regular price).
Thinking this should be a quick and easy install...
Little did I know the originals were epoxied so firm to the mirrors the body shop had to remove the mirrors, and then individually chip away at the original CF inserts...
They look great! although the final tally was: $310 just for the install.
Moral of the story, if you're updating the mirrors, it might be a good idea to spend some time ripping the old inserts off, and not have a body shop fiddle with a process that could be achieved with a few hours and some beers on a Saturday afternoon.

I had the same carbon covers before installing the complete CF mirror. They costed me $100 including shipping, installation took me 30 to 40 seconds for each side. Now 2 years later they are installed on my friends caymanS and look the same as new
OK... that makes me feel a little better.

Epoxy seems a little extreme for that kind of trim.
