Spark Plug gap?

What is the correct spark plug gap? I’ve read some of the other threads and can’t get clarification on this. I measured each plug and got a idea that Denso believe them to be 1.10mm. I know it depends on HP and temp of plug. I am installing the Europipe stage 2 and will probably get the softronic flash next.

Here are the Denso plugs i got showing the gap measured but, is there something better for my setup?

That’s horrible! Over 30 read this and not one person knows the answer? I don’t and I am seeking the answer. For everyone that has looked is also wondering the same thing. Sorry I am one for the exact answer to this. If you know please help. I really don’t want to put the car back together and find out you knew it should be 0.8mm in clearance for this.

Thanks in advanced if you reply,<O</O

Not everyone who reads posts on this forum are DIYers. Many don't have the technical knowledge to answer. They may also be running other plugs that IK20s.

Your choice in plugs should depend on what your tune is and what your tuner recommends. If you are planning on modifying your ECU, talk to your tuner about plug choices and gapping before you install them.

Thank you "bbywu" if you had a high flow exhaust and wanted to do the softronics ECU, what would you decide on plug type? I only have 3rd party opinions at this point. I am dealing with 2 different companies. Thanks for the help with the screw issue i had!

Personally, for a simple tune and exhaust, I'd use Bosch FR6DPP332 because I think they will last longer. Try reaching out to Scott Slauson @ Softronic - he'll be able to advise for sure.

He's got an account here - you can also reach him by phone...203-723-8928

These are just my opinions - I'm sure those with greater experience can chime in.

BTW, the Bosch FR6DPP332s are used on the GT2 and GT2RS, both higher HP applications with more timing and boost than a stock 997TT. But I'd check with Scott if you are planning on doing a Softronic ECU flash in the future.

Thanks for your opinion on this, always valuable input! I trust your opinion. I always thought that there may be more DIY with this type of car. It’s not a lambo or Ferrari where you would have no choice but to be a DIY!

I really enjoy working on my car. I wish more people DIY'd...but it can be scary working on a car engine that costs so much. Specific tools are sometimes required, but being a Porsche guy, specialty tools are a good investment.

This is a great thread:

I'll have to ask Alex to restore the photos as he probably moved them.

I understand "bbywu." Thank you for the additional information. Porsche does deserve the title of having an easy to work on car but, unfortunately it is up to us on the forum to make this theory happen.

I wasn't sure when to do my first post, but here goes.....

I just finished installing the EP2 over the weekend. The exhaust really screams! I had some minor install issues, but that's for a different post.

I also got a Softronic Flash. I had it for a couple weeks, but didn't want to flash until after the exhaust. After I flashed it yesterday, the boost really started early......but by 4k rpm (WOT) it stuttered and the CEL even flashed. Argh..need new plugs! If you get the EP2/Softronic combo like me, your plugs will need to be in tip top shape. I went back to the stock file until I get the plugs sorted.

I asked Softronic and they said they normally recommend the stock plugs (not overly committal but I've read some posts that say the same thing). I assumed stock gap as well. I'll check again with them. Cheers

997TTMeister is infamous around these parts
I have been down this road before. Scott recommends the stock plugs with a gap .025" with a tune and exhaust.

Thanks Steve, I would be in the same situation without your valuable input. I will definitely change the plugs.
