Remap/Tune

Is it remap and tune the same thing? I have heard that it would give you approx 100 extra horses on a 997 turbo is that true? Any recommendations on a shop near Riverside CA and approx. cost??

Yes typically when people refer to remap or tune they are synonomous. With a good tune and exhaust you should be about 100 hp range over stock...that is true.

Don't know of anything in your area....but you should get one of the flashes you do yourself....very easy...and quick!

Scott at Softronic has a special discount going now for something like $600 + off....makes them only about $1500+....There are others too....but I love my Softronic tune.....and at that price...hard to pass. Plus you get a Durametric diagnostic cable with it...I think it ends in a few days.

Good luck....

yes remap and tune are the same thing. scott does have a SICK deal going on.. and ive heard nothing but great things about softronic...
however, FVD just released a better deal for a VERY different type of tune..

if i had a 996 i'de get the softronic tune, for the 997 i wouldnt think twice about FVD..
FVD !!!! they're the RUF of chips.

Softronic does include Durametric for data logging and custom tune changes for every flash. Durametric also has fault reading and erasing for all control units other than just the DME. This is an added feature above just flashing a car.

Just as a history note... RUF was banned by Porsche many years ago.

Best,
Scott Slauson

You bet buddy! I have had the Sofronic tune for a number of years now and it is awesome! Plus being able to ge a fre Durametric cable to diagnose problems and clear codes is great too!

Your Borla sounds great on your car. Hope you are liking it!

Did you ever get your "R" set on your car? I posted a couple pics on your other post...I thought it came out pretty slick.

Good luck with your tune! If you end up with Softronic, I think you will be impressed with Scott's customer service and skills! Of course there are other good tunes as well, and everyone has their favorite..I can only refer to my experience which has been a friggin grin factory!

I am actually thinking about getting another Softronic tune for my wife's P-car soon! Now that should be funny! May be the last I see of the car

That may be about right? From their website link I found this listed. I guess when you add an exhaust and less backpressure you would get a little more...So you are likely correct based on this information.

FVD Software Power Gains:
Max. Power - 390 kW (530 HP) @ 6000rpm
Max. Torque - 720 Nm (531 lb.-ft.) @ 3000-4000rpm

Genuine:
Engine - 6 Cylinder Boxer Twin-Turbo
Capacity - 3600ccm
Compression ratio - 9.0:1
Max. Power - 353 kW (480HP) @ 6000rpm
Max. Torque - 620 Nm (457 lb.-ft.) @ 1950-5000rpm

Go get a custom tune. For the amount of money these guys are charging for a base "off the shelf" tune you can go get a CUSTOM dyno tune. Those are always better, and usually about the same price or cheaper.

Idk why these "tunes" are so expensive on the Porsche. An etune ( same concept as Softronic, FVD, etc) for a GTR is WAY less expensive. It has the same things given to you to allow diagnosing and code clearing, produces a much larger performance bump AND is cheaper. Seems like some gouging going on, on this side of the fence

Not sure I want some generic shop tinkering with my $150K Turbo....right after they tune a Civic.

These Porsche tunes are expensive, but they are tested and proven....and don't blow up your car. The R&D costs are spread over a limited number of units (997 Turbos).....

DC

Then I am guessing there are a lot more Nissans, Fords, Toyotas, etc., than there are Porsches....So we all pay the dreaded Porsche tax....

Power gain mostly depends on the fuel that you are going to use.

+100hp with just a tune on CA 91 octane is far away from being realistic

I definitely didn't say nor imply some "generic shop". The Porsche is expensive but not THAT special that people can't work on it. The GTR isn't just some average Nissan, it has limited numbers just like the Porsche, and it gets it done. Same with R8s, same with Lamborghinis (even the non turbo ones). They are overpriced, because people pay it not knowing better

Not saying they aren't good for what they are, but there are other options.

Agreed...

There are some really good shops that do great work and worth the money....many others ... Well, they may blow up your car

The other issue for many of us (me included) is there are no good or even ANY places where I live that can/will work on them....Even my nearest dealership is 1 hour away.....

So for those that live in areas where they have the option to go to these great shops...that is awesome....For many of us....that is not an option.

That is a niche' that these self installed tunes fill well.

Take care...

DC
