Cobb Tuning Here I Come - This will be interesting....

Read my results here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ls-inside.html

So for those of you who, like me, are on the fence about the Cobb AP tune for porsche, I am hoping, in the near future, to squash some of those concerns.

I've had the opportunity to work with a few different tuning companies, some I worked with completely through, some only partially, but lets say I am familiar with a handful of different platforms on the market. By no means am I an expert, not do I intend to directly judge any tuning shop I've dealt with. I'm simply asserting that I've had the pleasure of interacting with different companies, tuning styles, and platforms.

Now, I've used a Cobb AP in my 2007 335i and absolutely love it, nothing crazy on that particular car; however, a friend of mine has full bolt on's on his 335i and the Cobb really transforms it, especially with their E85/91 mix map, car is insanely responsive for stock twins.

Moving on...

While piecing together another vendors kit, I started looking around for tuning options. Granted that I was going to be out roughly 3k ballpark to get this done, I didn't want to set my money aflame should I decide to go a different route in the future, which I tend to do quite often.

With that in mind, after speaking with a fellow gear head and someone I've recently done business with (Antonio Calvo of Calvo Motorsports), upon receiving his recommendation I reached out to Mitch @ Cobb AP.

Mitch and I have worked up an agreement and I hope to spend some time with him next week. Tim from Cobb also provided me with an awesome price on the AP and is working some logistics to get me taken care of. Unfortunately, I can't go into too many details until things are finalized, but lets say I am looking forward to the results.

I'll update next week!

will you be doing a before and after dyno? I'm interested in seeing an actual dyno from a customer.

Anyways, congrats!

Undecided about the various tunes available. This thread may help me decide. Thanks Dhahlen

Thanks! Unfortunately no before dyno. My car was stock with an exhaust prior to everything else that was recently done.

I can elaborate more on the kit details once we get through tuning.

If anyone is interested in a before/after dyno, I'll hunt down some locals and we can do a map swap. I'll basically re-flash my car back to stock, flash theres with the stage 1 tune, and have them re-dyno.

More like a try before you buy scenario. I'll have to start asking around, most of the people I know here own 996's.

I'm going to dyno my '09 997.1 TT before I do any mods... then do Cobb stage 1 on 93 oct, stage 1 on 100+ oct... then I am going to change injectors and use E85 and once Cobb has a map dyno that as well... then add a plenum and Y pipe and dyno that

I suspect from dynos I have seen and from COBB guys dynos that a raw stage 1 on 93 oct will add about 50hp, with the 100 oct about 70hp and with E85 and larger injectors about 110 hp or thereabouts... with Y pipe, E85 and plenum (Cobb stage x and E 85) maybe 135 hp

We will see and I will be doing it slowly.... I want to do it that way because I rarely see a customer car dynoed on each explicit step

Fun times

That's the way to do it G.A.! Would be some very useful data, indeed!

E85 is fairly available out here, so I'm considering going the injector route myself.

Any idea what the power limit is on E85 with stock pump? Or do we require both a pump and an injector upgrade?

I have been told by a mate who tunes Porkers and by another person more knowledgeable than I that simply changing the injectors will suffice as the 997.1 system in stock form is very robust for E 85 (I was going to do the whole $5,000 ish USP upgrade)

I understand the Cobb/BBI did around 600 whp/600 ft-lbs with E85 on stock 997.1 turbos and stock fuel system (plus ID1000s ?)

Will do... we just came out of the ice-age up here in NY and I have only had the car for a few weeks... It has only 20k very lightly driven miles in 5 years... as my old man used to say, "Time to break this stallion", then we will tune..........

even in stock form it is quick off the line... we did some pulls versus a very quick Stage II HPF E46 and they only got me above 80mph (both manual cars)

I think anything near 600 whp is going to be heaps where I live

Haha yeah you guys on the East Coast have been getting hit hard it looks like this winter.

The car will be tons of fun with the AP, especially with a little E85

Cant wait for the testing! If you have questions on anything feel free to email me at Mitch.Mckee@cobbtuning.com

It would be nice if more information was released on this. Specifically, what else other than the injectors did they use? was it 100% e85 or a blend?

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger and more e85 info would definitely push me over the edge

E85 is essentially 104 octane.

I made 700ftlbs on my 996 with 1000cc injectors.

The 997.1 has two fuel pumps, so you don't need additional pumps like you do on the 996 unless you're going for big boy power (probably beyond 800 crank).

I figure 22-25% drivetrain loss on the 997. Therefore, I'd assume with 6 x 1000cc injectors in the 997, we could probably hit 775-800 crank with only an injector mod.

Thoughts, Mitch?

I may even be crazy enough to have those put in before you get here. LOL
