I'm firming things up. Mine didn't have multifunction before. He said no, but I don't want anything lost in translation.

you will have the 997.2 steering module already.

you wont need the lim-bus adapter UNLESS you purchase a 991.2 wheel that has multifunction controls (i would say 90% of the ebay gt4/macan wheels for sale have paddles AND multifunction) and want them to work properly (if your 997.2 does not have mulftuncton steering wheel right now you will likely need to get a 997.2 steering module programmed as well with a PIWIS to turn MULTIFUNCTION - ON).

to get the heated wheel function to work i believe the lim-bus adapter is around 400$.

shadow993 beat me to it, paul is the guy i saw on the retrofit 997 forum.

"porsche 997 retrofit custom & modified tips n tricks" is the Facebook modification group. enter that in the search query to be added and i am positive it will show up.

there is also a full tutorial there for those of us with 997.1 who just want to do a 'regular' 997.2 steering wheel swap (which I'm doing right now).

There is clearly a lot of interest in this thread.

That being said, it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED if someone (I'm looking at you Paul Li) can post a video or step-by-step DIY as to how a 991.2 steering wheel can be installed on a 997.1 or 997.2 and what the cost, parts, tools etc. is. I think everyone on this thread is begging for it. Personally, I have a manual 09 turbo 997.1 with MF so I don't even care about the paddle shifters. JUST DO IT!!!

I just finally sourced a leather 991.2 airbag, changing over from 99.1 to 991.2 setup now.

The process and procedure is the same as a 997.1 to a 997.2. You need a wheel , an airbag , a module 997.613.289.01. I bought a used module and it was plug and play. New modules require programing at the dealer or an indi with a piwis. If you Google there are 2 videos out there on the install.... easy DIY.

The manual only requires the wheel, airbag , and programing for the horn.

The 991.2 requires this guys line-bus to get the multifunction to work and lights on the wheel.

So for a 997.1 6mt without multifunction what's the best way of doing this? Can 991.2 multi work in place of the non multi 997.1 6mt steering wheel?

Yes

If you want multifunction it will require wheel, module, airbag, multifunction module, and possible programing with a piwis.

If you don't care for multifunction... wheel , airbag, and current module programed for horn.

so if there is no multifunction there is no need to update the module?

I'm 99% sure you only need programing for the horn on the 997.1 . I don't think the 997.2 need anything done if you don't want programing.

A search of manual upgraded wheels will tell you.

did your car previously have multifunction?

I've read that to get the horn to work on a newer wheel u have to turn 'multifunction - on' on the current older steering module.

I did not have multifunction in my 997.1, and my horn did not work when put the 997.2 wheel on.

Hi Guys, fitted the adapter today, it was really quick and easy. No programming necessary, as I was already set for mutifunction. Works flawlessly, real plug and play.
My Turbo is a 2007 with PCM3 retrofit.
One of the best and most simple mods, that works out the box (Like DSC) that I've yet done.

So, to be clear, you're saying you were able to easily plug-and-play a multifunction 991.2 steering wheel into a PCM 3.0-equipped multifunction 997, without even needing a trip to the dealer? Just order the parts and do it in your garage?
