Any more info on your oil leak? I have residue build up in the same spot. Nothing drips on the floor though.

hi Jeebus31

i haven’t put the car on the road yet for the season. I should be on the road in about a week or so - waiting on new rear tires.

Got more work done today but ran I into two stripped exhaust bolt threads. Man was that a total pain to get re-threaded. My titanium exhaust wrap arrived today but waiting for the silicone high temp DEI paint to come.

I found one bolt that was drilled out on the left turbo by the previous owner I guess.

Getting super close to finishing now.

Well I finally finished my exhaust and the services I wanted to carry out. I put a new fuel filter, new spark plugs and built a completely new exhaust from scratch. It has been a lot of work but I’m very proud that I got it done.

I only started the car while on the lift as I’m still waiting for my rear tires to come in. I did get the PASM failure but I was expecting it since the battery has been disconnected for over 3 months.

Exhaust sound is is very deep and quite a bit louder than stock. I haven’t had a chance to drive it and hear it under load. I didn’t rev it because it is 1 am here and I don’t want to wake my family or the neighbours.

Here are are the pics and I will try to upload the video.

UPDATE:

So I have been driving the car around this past week. It is very loud!! (LOL). I love hearing the turbos whistling but the drone between 2-3k is quite strong and it gets quieter after 3k. I can't seem to find my in-car video to share the sound but there is a lot of raspy-ness to the exhaust note that I'm not a fan of. The O2 extenders work very well and I don't have any check engine lights on. The PASM code disappeared after a little bit of driving. There was also no smells so far without the cats installed.

I live in Vancouver, Canada so the weather is spotty at best. Driving the car to work on Tuesday I get pulled over by an undercover cop. Pulls me over for excessive noise and he actually pulled out a meter and got me to rev the car. It measured 118 db @ 3k and that was more than enough for him to ticket me (limit in my province is 88db-LOL). $362 ticket and a notice to appear for a fix-it vehicle inspection. He was a nice guy and told me if I bring the car to the inspection with the stock exhaust back on he would drop the cost of the ticket. So I have gone and put the stock exhaust back on and I'm meeting him tomorrow.

My next step is to get some good quality resonators to take away the raspy sounds and to bring down the volume a bit. I will add more pictures and updates as I go along.

What crappy luck on the ticket as soon as you get the car on the road!I
My son has the same drone in the 2-3 range gone above 3K on the fabspeed set up on a 996TT.
Sounds insane great job!!!, I would be ticketed before i left my driveway here in California. Much steeper fines too

Yes, I was rushing to get the car done for the first Cars and Coffee of the season but it is going to be raining heavily tomorrow so they are going to reschedule. Otherwise I would have been there.

Thanks Jay! Oh well, what can you do. I'll get it all sorted and back on the car shortly.

loving the build and pics! I am saving up for a TIG welder as well to build my own exhaust...have been out of practice for about as long as you, about 11 years now. Looking forward to more progress!

Small update

I have ordered two Vibrant resonators (12”) with the straight through design (part 1794). I should be getting them shortly and will re-work the exhaust.

I went and saw the cop with the stock exhaust back on. He reduced the ticket down to $132. It was very nice of him to do what he did.

I have been been driving around a fair bit and I have really missed driving this car!! I had a few spirited moments but then ended up with a check engine light. I got my POR2 scanner out and it came up with P1095. After researching a bunch it came up as air entering the system after the MAF’s. So the bumper and back end came off again (I’m getting really good at it now lol) and found that the upper inter cooler hoses on both sides had blown off. It was a simple fix but I noticed that the rubber gasket on the flange end was rolling up as it was being inserted and thereby preventing the hose to seat all the way in. A bit of lube on the rubber ring and it fit perfectly. More updates once the resonators show up.
