hey Challenger997 - thanks for sharing your project. I'm thinking of doing something similar with my drone tubes. I would recommend that you put some bracing in for the tubes as they are long and will put on more stress on the welds as you drive the car and the tubes bounce. Please add a sound clip if possible.
I was surprised how quiet it was. When it was on my 996tt it was extremely loud. It wouldn't upload my video, I'll try to get a link from YouTube.
Thanks for the video! Very quiet. You did a great job! Just get that bracing in place and you should be good to go. I will be getting mine done too before I put the car on the road for the season.
I was doing my oil change this past week and found some coolant drops under the car. I did notice a few drops last season after a “spirited drive”. I took out the airbox and charge pipes and found this:
after taking apart everything and removing the coolant I took off that connector to inspect the hose. After more digging around I looked up at the coolant tank and saw the white residue on the left side of the tank. I took off the reservoir cap and found residue on it as well. I did more digging around and found that I had the “03” cap and read online that the “04” cap was the updated one and this was a common issue. I ordered a new one online along with a vacuum pump to refill the coolant. I’m not a fan of the idea that the coolant is lifetime. The car is a 2009 and only has 43,xxx kms on it. I was glad to remove the coolant and figure this one out. Was worried I would have the dreaded coolant fitting issue.
Looking forward to getting the car on the road soon.
I haven't had it out yet either. Hopefully soon. I'll have to look at my cap. I hadn't heard about that. I'll be dropping the motor this winter to pin the coolant pipes. I'm slowly collecting the parts.
I don't know why it's so quite, must be the turbos. My 996 had larger turbos and it was loud.
Since the initial repair on the cooling system my water pump went out on me and along with that the connection that I had taken out. Went out with dramatic flair right as I was in the middle of a pull on the highway on-ramp. Coolant went everywhere and I thought I was experiencing what others described as a fitting letting go. Had the car put on a flatbed and sent home. Did the repair over 4 nights and took my time with everything.
I was able to source a new pump and install it along with a new accessory belt. Check the bearings on the tensioners and other rotating assemblies. Thermostat was replaced 2 years ago and never had any over-heating issues so I left it alone. Was a big job but a huge thanks to TheRock for the amazing guide! I strongly recommend that anyone doing this job get an Airlift coolant replacement tool (https://www.cpsproducts.com/product-details/550500/). Made the job substantially easier and no issues since the repair. I did use grey gasket maker on the pump housing, gasket and the block - so glad I did!
Car is back on the road and running like a champion! Have a great season everyone and be safe!
