Correct Weight Oil

I do not know what Porsche makes it so hard to get this info.

For a 2011 Turbo S am I correct that Porsche recommends Mobil 1 0W- 40 weight oil ?

Car has 4,700 miles

Personally I use Red Line in a combination of 5/50 & 0/40 weights (4 Redline 0w40 & 4.5 - 5 Redline 5W50). That gives me a good combination of slightly higher viscosity at warmer & colder temperatures than the straight 0w40 does, something which I think is helpful for our engines.

One thing to consider, that I found surprising after being a Mobil 1 consumer for decades, was that Mobil 1 is not fully synthetic. That was it for me, I made the switch to Red Line about 7 years ago.

Ed,

I am not an oil guru but after reading your post I called Mobil lubricant division and they told me anything that says Mobil 1 is full synthetic.

they do make Mobil oils that are fossil fuels. But the Mobil 1 product line is full synthetic.

thanks for adding to the discussion.

You are correct. Re-reading what I wrote doesn't really qualify the difference. The difference is in the base stock/carrier oil each uses, as well as the performance numbers. There is nothing wrong with Mobil 1, it's just some properties of Red Line impress me, like high temp performance and unless I have misread several disparate sources, based on a synthetic carrier. What also made an impact was reading some Blackstone test outputs, and how the oils did their job.

Anyway, Mobil 1 is probably the best off the shelf Synthetic out there, especially if you are changing the oil regularly.

I agree that there are many good oils and I just have not gone down the rabbit hole on oil so I stick with the manufacturer recommendations. I don't track the car so i expect the protection to be sufficient.

0-W40 is the oil I run in the North East and no issues whatsoever in terms of summer fun run or winter runs. Although in the winter I bring the oil temp up gently and then off you go.

I personally do not like Mobile 1, but there are many that do. They tend to run thinner than advertised. I like Redline or Liqui Moly. If I run track days in the summer I sometimes run 10-W40, or 15-W50 depending on ambient temperature.
