I was at the SlipStream Street Race Exhibition this past weekend, which is a roll-race event held at Pocono Raceway.
The premise is that cars race from a rolling start (much like a “Mexico Run”) and compete to set the top MPH over a distance of 1,760’ (1/3 mile). To qualify, a car’s pass must start below 65MPH to count.
The cars are at this event cover the full spectrum from 400hp-2000+hp. For this past weekend’s event, there were 5 classes: AWD, RWD, FWD, Manual, and 4 Door.
This particular car from AIM Performance was registered in the manual transmission class, but ended up setting the highest MPH of the entire event (beating out some very big HP GTRs). Keep in mind, the track is in the mountains and on this day humidity and DA were some of the highest we’ve ever seen.
Joe started his run at 53 MPH (well below the cutoff for a fair run) and finished through the 1/3 trap at 194 MPH! This was an instant win in the manual transmission class, and actually topped the 192 MPH run from a GTR in the AWD class.
Kudos to Joe for making the man pedal his b****. And props to AIM for building some serious monsters, there may have actually been more Porsche’s than GTRs for once and the AIM cars all ran consistent.
Here are some shots of the other Porsche’s at the event. The next one is September 15 with registration opening this Saturday. If you’re on IG, follow them at @slipstreamracingevents
