Sorry but I disagree. Mawyatt makes good points in his post. Its much easier for a driver to handle foul weather in an AWD car with almost 500 ponies, than a car with similiar HP with just rear wheel drive. Traction control helps but if I lived in an area with his weather conditions and I could afford it, a Turbo would be much safer than a Z06 as a daily driver. IMHO.

cooperlee,

Yeah you are right. My money, so don't need to justify the selection to anyone...except my wife!! Got a 97 993C2 I love to drive as well, totally different car than the 997 turbo though.

C4S,

A guy I work with got washed into a ditch on US 19 on the way to work this summer. Couldn't get traction with rears to pull himselve away from being dumped in the ditch, needed 4WD.

On page 4 I offered the z06 boys to run my 996tt which should be close to the 997tt in power. No takers, lol. They'd better hurry before my new turbos go on.

On page 4 of what thread?

If you are within 100 miles of MI, you got yourself a race. I have been trying to get a race with a stock 997 TT against my bone stock C6 Z06 with someone from this board for a long time now, and I have yet to have anyone take me up on the offer.

I know, but isn't a stage 2 and a 997 TT pretty much identical?

You are right. I did, and i did get it on video, and the guy that had the camera never got back with me. I know that sounds about as bad as an excuse as a third grader telling their teacher that their dog ate their HW, but that is what really happend. Nothing more I can say.

Besides, why do you think I have been wanting to race another one so bad, asking gover and over again on this forum? Maybe because I have raced one before, time and time again from various speeds, and I know exaclty how the races will go each time??..

The Z06 is the faster car, although the 997 TT is pretty quick, one of the fastest stock cars that I have raced (About as fast as the SL65 AMG I raced)

My bad, page three. You on stock rubber with no warm up, I'v got a video camera so don't worry about it. We can do other runs as well it's just that was the race in said video my offer is to replicate it.

From Car & Driver

They show 997turbo quicker than Z06 to 0-60 (3.7 vs. 4) and 1/4 mile time (11.6 vs. 11.9). I think these are the correct times (I know the turbo was quicker in both), check back of mag they list all times for various cars.

These are from Car & Driver web.

From Mantrop Park Track (Sweden)

Corvette Z06: 1:27.5 sec
Porsche 911 Turbo: 1:30.5 sec

Nurbugring Track

7:28 - 166.652 km/h - Porsche Carrera GT, 612 PS/ 1475 kg, Walther Roehrl, (Autobild 07/04)
7:32* - 164.071 km/h – Pagani Zonda F, 650 PS/ 1230 kg, (*mfr.) www.autodrome-cannes.com/index-eng.asp
7:34 - 163.586 km/h - Koenigsegg CCR, 806 PS/1418 kg, Horst von Saurma (sport auto), oct,17-18 05
7:36 - 162.631 km/h - Porsche Carrera GT, 612 PS/ 1475 kg, factory test driver Walther Röhrl (02)
7.39* - 161.575 km/h - Porsche 997 GT3, 415 PS/1395 kg, *mfr. (quote sport auto 05/06)
7:40 - 161.217 km/h – Bugatti 16/4 Veyron, 1001 PS/1980 kg (Wheels magazine Australia, 12/05)
7:40 - 161.217 km/h - Mercedes Benz SLR McLaren, Klaus Ludwig (AutoBild 07/04)
7:40 - 161.217 km/h - Porsche 997 Turbo, 480 PS/ ??? kg, Michelin Cup Sport tyres (Motortrend)
7:42* - 160.519 km/h – Ford GT, 550 PS/ 1521 kg (*as indicated by Octane magazine, 11/05)
7:42.9 - 160.207 km/h - Corvette Z06, 500 PS/1319 kg, Jan Magnusen, (Sporbilen, jun,26 05), www.supercars.net/Pics?vpf2=y&gID=3&fID=0&tID=10073&mID=1384471&l=d
7:43 - 160.173 km/h - Porsche 996 GT3 RS, factory test driver Walter Roehrl (MOTOR magazine)
7:43.5 - 160,000 km/h - Lamborghini Murcielago (Autocar magazine 02)
7:45* - 159.484 km/h - McLaren F1, *estimated lap time from a video available at www.pistonheads.tv
7:46 - 159.142 km/h - Porsche 996 GT2, 462 PS/1450 kg (sport auto 06/01)

So as I said before both are very good, pretty much even cars. Z06 more track centered, turbo more street (GT) centered.

So lets move on to something more productive, like what do we think the GT2 will do on the track.

BTW anyone heading to Sebring this year?

Mike

Then we can meet half way. 70 miles each way, which is not bad, about an hr and 15 minute drive. If you are willing to do this, I will be MORE THAN happy to meet up and race.

As far as telling me to not warm up my tires....umm, are you serious? You have AWD and I have RWD on runflats with 420 rwtq. If I want to warm them up for better traction, I will.

We can run from a dig and we can run from a 50 roll. If you accept, let me know and we can do this as soon as the weather warms up. I also have a video camera.

Are you on the border? That would be the only way the drive both ways would be 70miles. In the vid there was NO warm up, that's the deal. I said that I'll do other runs as well but you must agree to this run first.
