I have my V1 powered by the power supply in the passenger foot well. If i leave it plugged in, but turn the power to the V1 off, will the battery drain when the car is off?

NO...it will not drain the battery..Just remember to always turn the V1 Off

 

With power off to V1, no drainage. Why not just plug the red wire into #15 fuse slot from hard wire adaptor, and ground the black wire. V1, then, turns off with ignition.

 

thanks, I read that if the key was left in the battery would drain, so didnt want to be in buttf**ck egypt with a dead battery from the V1

John, you should know how to wire it by now. I responded to your post in the other forum. Direct him to the photos (I am not sure how to do that). Its pretty straight forward.

You need a blank-fuse (V1 furnishes one in their kit) and one of those brass-connections that slide in along side one of the fuse metal tips as you plug in the fuse. The hot wire hooks to the other end of the connection using solder or just black tape. I used the #15 slot which is empty. You could use any other fuse that is live when ignition on. Just use the brass connection that slides in with one of the fuse's metal tips. The fuse description chart is just inside of the black cover plate that you remove on left underdash side of car to expose the fuses. Nothing to it except the close quarters...and you need a strong flashlight to be sure of no mistakes. Forgot about the black ground wire...that is the other wire on the adaptor from V1. There is a clutch switch at the clutch joint under the dash. Just splice the black ground wire into the brown wire (a ground wire). Tape it good...that's it.

 

Easy to do without photos..in my description below, I forgot about the ground wire. Use the brown wire that is there on the clutch switch.(just splice in the black wire to this brown wire) .....this was the easiest spot I could find under the dash without loosening screws or bolts.

If you place the V1 on the visor, you would think hooking it to a live wire in the ceiling light would be easiest. Not true. Hooked all my V1s in my four M3s, this way. With this tt however, it is considerably more easy just to go into the under dash fuse box and run the wire under the plastic piece along the windshield to the V1 on the visor. Currently my V1 is on the right visor with the remote just above the steering wheel just left of the clock. This was tremendously easier than searching for the wires in one of the roof switches. I wanted no part of this mess. Even following the instructions looked like a real pain in the butt. It always was with my M3s. And too with the remote which is usually at eye level low on the dash board, hooking to the fuse box is so easy. With M3s, going through the fuse box was much more difficult is why drivers pick the headline light hot wire. good luck on your choice.
