Update on my 997--what I have done

Hey,

Well I have installed the springs. I eventually got the Eibach springs instead of the H&R's and am very, very happy about them. The drop is not that much but for some reason I feel it rides better now than it did with the stock springs. I also then installed 5mm spacers and had it alligned at Porsche. The guy who drove the car afterwards noted how well the new springs rode and smoother she felt. Gap between the tire and wheel well is cut more than half but not tucked. Perfect if you have the GT3 bumper up front. I had to also replace a shock mount due to a broken bolt. The nice person who had the car before took the mount of with an impact wrench and broke off on of the bolts. So-new mount also installed.

On the highway there is no float and the PASM is still functional. Love it!!!

I also had the body shop redo my hood and bumper with some compound and glaze. In an effort to shoot as much clear as they could to protect it, the 22 layers or(embellishing a little) so gave it a crazy illusion look-holligram to it. So now its perfect and I think I might do that to the whole car to rid of the surface scratches and stuff-black is a pain!!

Last and not least two more mods...I bought and installed the Smartkey remote.
Cannot tell you how happy I am with it. The install really is not hard, and even with my shaky as heck hands(nervous to break something), actually was a breeze. The walkthrough on their site explains everything. Now the car beeps when I lock it, the passenger window rolls up and down one touch without holding it half way on up, and the windows will roll up or down with the remote. You can even turn you headlights on when walking up to your car in low light situations for safety. Really cool!!

The last thing is not a mod, but a repair..I have to replace my windshield because of rock chips and pits in it. I decided to go OEM factory, which out of pocket is a little more but insurance picks up the rest...I pay about $90 difference.

So--I will have her nicely waxed up and ready for a photo shoot this weekend.
Last mod i will do will be the sport cats. Have them ordered for and just awaiting shipment from Fabspeed. I will do a video of the sound too...

Only had the car a few weeks but I absouletly love it. Problem is I need to stop modifying it and just enjoy for a little while.

Watch out now, buddy. The mod disease is maddening. It's good that you feel it now and can possibly hold off from it. I'm actually serious here. I am CONSTANTLY dropping mine of somewhere, or picking it up, or blah blah. I can't wait to be done. Unfortunately for me, it took me literally getting to the end of the possible mod list to be done.

Great looking car. GREAT looking car. Well done. I bet it's much happier with you as an owner than the previous one! You just bettered the life of a 911. Woo hoo!

If I have the mod disease and am crazy, you my friend are just plain nuts! I have watched and seen your cars' transformation and its simply just crazy! I love it the way it is and the way it was. I see where you are going with it and could not imagine if I went that far-(Which does not seem so far away now_) But it is..

My car is my everyday car. I am growing tired of dropping it here and there and getting rides here and there. As we all know, there is never just a simple install. You will find some fault and take it back which in turns takes more time to readjust. I guess we like the stress and the fun there is finding good deals on parts and then getting them to work correctly with what we are applying it too. No car is exactly alike.

I am def. taking a break once those high speed cats go on. Next mods in the near future are prob. a new set of tires when needed, mac-carbon center console, Gt-3 alcantra ebrake, steering wheel, and shift ****...
Maybe intake and plenium but honestly I really do not need any more performance. This things already gets my knuckles white.

And yea, the previous owner was a ***** the way he treated this car. No concern for road debris and proper maintenance. Also abuse and damage to parts I still cannot figure out how. But none the less this battered pup is now rescued from the shelter and I am keeping her well fed and fixed up.

How are you liking the Fabspeed? I am planning on ordering AWE cats and mufflers tomorrow to go along with the headers...though Fabspeed is def a possibility as well...so hard to decide between the two.

I am not kidding you when i tell you the ride seems more compliant and comfortable. I feel that when you compare the stock springs and teh aftermarket springs you can even see the difference. Also the rear springs i can compress them in my hand, at least the first coil...

I also feel that the lower you go the more ride you loose. Stating that the Eiabach's are not that low at all and I feel that is why maybe the H&R;s might be a little rougher...

I like the fabspeed but have 2 propblems with it.

1. The tone is awesome when its warm, but it is only really super noticable down low in the rev's such as when you rev it up it or start it --barks real nice and deep but fades the higher in the rev range you go.

2. Drones at times on the highway in certain RPM ranges. If you upshift it or downshift it goes away but I do notice it at times.

I like the Fabspeed because of the fit and finish of them and love the size of the tips. All in all I would give them a 8 out of 10 and problably would still get them again because of the reason I am getting the sport cats. That really will complete the sound I was looking for and should be what finishes the performance part of my project.

If i was to simply get a muffler only I would consider the PSE, however, I still like the fabspeed's look, weight and also the other components that match up..

The Fabspeed mufflers were one of the first mods I did and all I can says is that above 5-5,500 it screams. Quite a bit different experience from yours. Of course, I don't run it at those revs when the car is cold. I did have drone and resonance issues with the FS exhaust plus EVO intake but when I changed out the headers that issue disapeared. The high-flow cats will really change the sound of the car.
