According to my dealer, use only factory coolant in the 997 because it's designed to be permanent. The service writer claimed that damage from use of non-Porsche coolant would not be covered under the warranty. I needed a quarter cup-ful to top mine off and I had to buy a gallon (at $32 a gallon) because they discontinued the pint bottles.

You can buy a gallon of 50/50 PEAK Lifetime for less than $10. 100% compatable with what is in there.

I remember reading something that it is against the law for a car company to insist on buying there branded fluids and void the warranty if you don't. This came up either somewhere on this site or the rennlist site.
I read almost everything on these sites about what coolant to use and I came up with either Dexcool Havoline Ext Life, Peak Long Life 50/50, or Prestone Ext Life. If all you need to do is a little topping off....distilled water is okay.
