Pretty much what I figured...the M3 although has a weight disadvantage once rolling that disadvantage is erased. I test drove one as I was going to buy one. I thought the thing was a monster..
I passed though as the leases on them are terrible, not to mention the fuel economy..rated at 14/20..YIKES.

that's where the extra HP comes into play. the new M3 is great. though it might feel slightly heavier than 997 but it's a such nice packaged car. the engine is great & sounds great. very fun to drive yet comfortable when u need it to be.
The BMW M3is an awesome car, but I am not even remotely interested in a trade in situation for my 997, ask me about a 997 GT3 the answer would change
Exactly the results I've seen and heard from others. The m3 has a big hp and slight displacement advantage, but is hampered down low from a high curb weight. Only when the speeds get pretty high 120-130+ MPH will the weight become less of a factor and the hp really make the difference. If you think the difference was bad now just wait until the new DSG transmission M3 comes out. F1 paddle shifters with 80 millisecond shift times (F1 cars are only in the 60 millisecond range now). It's really gonna rip.
I agree with what others have already said though I'll take a 997 S over an e92 M3 any day of the week.

Agreed. Might I add that most M cars seems to have incredible top end pulling power, especially the M5 and M6. They are not the fastest down low, but once well into the triple digits, the linear high rpm horsepower and proper gearing really seems to help them pull endlessly. I would like to see a 997 GT3 race the E92 M3 from a high speed roll just for kicks, especially once the DSG transmission is released.
